wednesday I’m going to test drive my first 60series. The AC is in a “box”. Being in the south, that’s no good!
How do you check and see it the unit is ruined or not?

unit ..?

you mean all parts of the AC system ...?

Compressor, condenser, evaporator, hoses etc ..?

no way to tell if they are good or not if they are all in a " box "

Correct. I know it doesn’t work (otherwise it wouldn’t be in a box), kinda sucks to reinstall it to see what’s bad or wrong with it.

For the A/C, I would plan on replacing most of the parts. Hopefully all the lines are there. Most of this stuff isn't terribly expensive on it's own (except for maybe the condenser), though it will all add up. Check out this listing of parts and prices by the fine people at Coolstream.

That’s a great list. Thanks. I figured I would have $1000 in an AC job.

As long as the lines are there and look to be in good condition (although if left out I would get them rebuilt) and the box for the AC condenser and bracket for the compressor are there (it bolts to the motor mount on the passenger side on a FJ60) then the rest is just bolt on and can be done yourself with basic tools.
