Going from an fj80 to possibly a kzj78

well I got the tires and rims on today afterwork. I think it looks more 1980s Toyota. Kinda the look I am going for. I really like it! drives a lot better going 55mph as well. I need to take it on the beach soon to see how it does out there. I still need to buy a spare but dang this thing looks way better to me! little less tactical looking and more utilitarian looking.
Looking good! I love OEM wheels.

Wow, it looks so much better! I think the tall skinny tires are the way to go on these.

The lights on the front you mentioned wanting to replace, are they the turn signal lenses below the headlights or the cornering lamps next to the headlamps? The factory cornering lamp lenses are clear and light up when the turn signal is turned on like @FJ40 that green thing said. It would appear that only the RH side turn signal lens is available from Megazip, Partsouq doesn't have either in stock.

I have always used Auber digital gauges for pyrometers, they're pretty good for the price and I feel they fit in dash nicely. My first one I mounted in a single DIN cubby below the radio, my brother has one mounted in a switch blank in his HDJ81, and I have a double DIN mounted in the dash pod on my current Prado.

x2 on Auber gauges.

I posted a photo in your other thread of mine mounted in the single DIN cubby:

Your new wheel/tire combo are sweet as.

I was talking about the turn signal lenses below the headlights. yeah I am realizing that @FJ40 that green thing is 100% correct on the cornering lamps. I tested it out yesterday. One of those little things that I did not know. Another thing I found out recently is you can fold all the seats down front and back and make a bed in the prado. all the seats fold flush! thats including the front seats.

I think I saw shopcruiserparts had one of the two turn signal lamps. maybe this one is a left. I am not sure where I will mount the pyrometer. I kinda want to keep my din space. its nice to keep my phone in when driving. id does seem like the most logical space though.

thanks I am going to look at these. Seems like they will fit better in some spaces.

@Roastchestnuts I could be wrong on yours, but on my model KZJ78, the front corner lights are clear because when you turn on your turn signal, the corresponding corner light turns on to light up the area in the direction you are turning into. That wouldn't work so well if the lense was orange like the earlier LJ's. My 95 isuzu trooper also had this feature, I really like it! not sure why auto manufacturers stopped doing it. Maybe check it out and see what happens when you turn on your turn signal.
you are correct! Thats a cool feature I did now know about haha.

@Roastchestnuts It is cool! Sounds like you were talking about the indicator lenses under the headlights. Seems there was a kit available that had all clear lenses and unfortunately yours got the conversion. My orange lenses are faded and could use replacement, same on the fenders, if you find a source let me know. New wheels look awesome!

I was but I learned somthing new! I have found only the left one in the states from here https://shop.cruiserparts.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=112_117_346&products_id=39291 unfortunulty it seems impossible to find the right one. I think somebody said you could find the right one Megazip

and thanks! I am so happy with how the wheels and tires look and drive. I just need to buy the spare. I was trying to wait till the next pay check haha. one thing I have already noticed is the lean drivers side is slightly more noticeable now its about an inch sag ( it was like this before the tire change too. searching the forums this seems to be pretty common.) So I bought the spacer that OME provides for lifts. I have read the spaces for front 80 series will work in the rear too and I have two that I never installed on my old one) I thought maybe the previous owner installed the front OME springs backwards. Like the one for the left on the right... but they were the same height. Maybe they were different spring rates but I doubt it. anyways more fun for me in the future!

Part number for the RH lens is 81511-60402, here on Megazip: 81511-60402 - Lens, Front Turn Signal Lamp, Rh, Toyota OEM | Megazip.net - https://www.megazip.net/zapchasti-dlya/toyota/lens-front-turn-signal-lamp-rh-8151160402?q=81511-60402

Got my 76C thermostat for my 1kzte yesterday! now I have another fun weekend project. I did not think about this when I purchased the thermostat but does anyone know if these thermostats have a rubber gasket you need to install at the same time? I ended up having to change my thermostat on my old 3fe because the previous owner forgot to install the gasket with the thermostat. because of the lack of this gasket the 3fe never really wanted to get to temp. (witch might be a good thing for the 1kzte haha)

If I didn't have the OEM flares, I would be rocking those wheels myself. The best OEM Toyota wheel ever for the 70 series.

For steel rims they are made pretty well too. I am loving them for sure. I need to purchase the spare soon. I am thinking about buying some hub caps when I do. I believe these will fit the front: 42603-35080 (little bit worried about the hub adapter adding some extra length.) and for the rear: 42603-60053

I have my old tires and rims for sale locally I am not going to ship them but I figured I would let everybody know just in case anyone wants to take a trip to Ocracoke Island NC. they are 33x12.50 15 inch rims and they come with the method alloy rims. I think they are real bead lock rims actually.

This past weekend I have done a couple of little things. I replaced the 83 degree tstat with a 76 degree one. The thermostat was not a difficult job but I had to look up how to orientate the jiggle valve. (I believe its about 3 o clock.) also It does require an extra rubber gasket. The one that was around the old tstat was still in great shape so I just reused it. (not what I like doing)

I also replaced my valve cover gasket and I was pleasantly surprised that both my intake and under the valve cover was surprisingly clean. I did however cross two vacuum lines in the back that made the engine turning off. at first I thought I had some how made one of the motor mounts start to go. but it was just a crossed vacuum line. I believe it actuates the butterfly valve in the throttle body. If somebody knows what those vacuums actuators that are bolted on the metal intake tube actually do let me know.

If you're talking about the vacuum actuators that control the butterfly valve in the intake then they're just to provide some intake vacuum to help suck the exhaust in from the EGR system. They can be deleted along with the rest of the EGR system.

Yes thats what I am talking about. I figured that they were related to the butterfly valve as they went to the vacuum actuator on the the throttle body. I had re installed the vacuums lines incorrectly at first and It gave the engine a rough shut down. Is that something that would still happen if I deleted them? Thanks!

Update on the tires and rims. It actually does just as well on the beach with the skinny tires. The wide tires always had issues with staying in the ruts so it always wanted to turn when going off the beach ramps. These skinny tires just glide on through. Constantly aired down to 20psi unless driving on hwy 12 off the island, Then I air them up. Spare rim and tire should be here by next week.

I found this license plate light cover for I think 30$ and impulse purchased it. my old one said prado on it and had some uv damage. (I have kept it incase I want to put it back to original.) I think I like how the Toyota 4wd with silver looks better. I am really happy I did this because the bracket underneath was starting to get rusty. I converted and stopped the rust while I was at it. and I finally got my spare tire mounted and attached to the rear door.
