@Roastchestnuts did you end up running a pyrometer gauge?
I just did my EGR delete yesterday with the same kit from Vanlife Northwest, and now I'm going to work on the pyrometer gauge. Just trying to figure out how to run the wires through the firewall....do I drill a new hole or is there an existing firewall 'hole' that I can work through? If you've already done that, let me know how it went...thanks!

On the LJ78 (and probably the KZJ78) there is a rubber boot in the firewall near the brake booster that you can run wires through (assuming you have an Automatic). On the manual transmission models that hole is used for the clutch master cylinder.

Long story short, The first gage came in the mail looking like a car backed over it. I should get the replacement tomorrow. I would assume I could find an existing hole. Ill get back to you when I install.

I've got a manual KZJ78....are you implying that for a manual that rubber boot can't be used?
@Roastchestnuts thanks, let me know how it goes.

Yes, on a manual the boot isn’t there, that’s the hole for the clutch master cylinder. On my automatic LJ78 I ran a bunch of wires through it, but was disappointed to find it missing on my manual LJ78. I’ll have to check where I ran wires for that; I’m pretty sure some of them go through the throttle cable hole since I have fly by wire throttle now.

So because mine is an auto, I just used one of the rubber place holder holes from where the clutch master cylinder would be. but I think If I were in your shoes I would just drill a hole. I did just get it installed today. I need to button up a few things like ziptieing the excess wire and things like that. Also gotta do a few more modding to make it fit just right. I just a dremmel tool to make the hole just slightly bigger. for the gage. the gage sticks out because of spacing behind the switch. But for now I am going to leave it, Ill Come back to it another day. I did find out somebody defiantly smoked in this vehicle. the metal above the ash trey was nasty!
Very dusty vehicle right now...

Wow.… Kodak film rolls. Been awhile since I saw those.
Haha! I Originally went to school for photography and then switched to fine art because they closed the darkroom. I have a digital leica (payed way too much for it) but I still shoot film a lot. call me a hipster or a retro man IDK I think aesthetically it looks way better! I do most of my own develepping. I still send of e-6 slide or color if its really important. My instagram has a lot of my photography. (like everyone else) but my handle for that is roastchestnuts as well. In fact I think one of these photos of my cruiser was shot on film. I think the one with @Shyrock s land cruiser in it.

I have seen a bunch of good looking 4x4s on the island recently. I have seen two really nice looking fzj80s and a really nice looking 1st gen 4runner. (ill try and get photos tomorrow). snapped this photo today. My friends lx450 and my kzj78 and a tourists really nice cj7 with a 304 v8 and auto trans. Was cool to see them all parked together. side note, if diesel gets any higher I might be buying a golf cart like this one to get around.

Been working a bunch this summer..... who said teachers had summer off! but last week my fiancé and I did some exploring on the north end of the island we live on. and we found a cool sound side beach tucked away.

Some Updates: last weekend I took my front suspension apart to add one of the plastic shims from ome to the driver side to see if it helps the classic right side land cruiser lean. It seems to corrected the lean to about 70% I would say. Side note: I love how easy it is to attach and detach the sway bar links on these compared to other cruisers I have worked on.

I thought possibly the ome suspension the previous owner installed was installed with the springs on the wrong side but unfortunately I think its correct and just has some drivers side lean.

I think on Sunday if the weather is nice I am going to throw the shim spacer (Not sure what you call these) in the rear driver RH side too. I feel that this would fully correct the about 3/4 inch lean driver side at least visually.

I am about to start working on the body panels that have some rust. Going to fix a few rust spots on the front fenders. and a few spots on the rocker panels that are popping up. However I need to buy a new mig welder. I am thinking about buying a Hobart 140. If anybody has any experience with this model, let me know. from my understanding its a rebranded miller? I had the Lincoln equivalent but I was flooded in a bad hurricane we had here a few years ago. IT SUCKS TO HAVE TO SLOWLY BUY NEW TOOLS!

Also I have decided that I am going to purchase a arb bumper at some point soon and Cut the wings like @AirheadNut did on his prado.

@Roastchestnuts do you know what offset those wheels are? I wonder if they would work with my flares if I used spacers. They sure look good.
I think they are a 3.75 inch back space I read that some place on mud. But I could be incorrect. I have seen them on a bj74 with 285 75 16 size tires and it had flairs and It looked good to me. I think they would look cool on yours. I don't remember the size tire you put on yours though. I love these rims though. they give these cruisers a more utilitarian look for sure. I still need to buy some hub caps for them though. I have the part number written down for that too.

I don't think that 42601-60262-03 ever came with hubcaps. At least not originally.
You are probably right. I had some beat up ones for the factory steel wheels on my fj80 that looked like they would fit the same way. I was just planing on getting some more of those. Ill have to double check if they fit though. looked like the little grooves fit. (I know the front ones don't because of the locking hubs)

I used 42601-60262-03 wheels before on my HZJ77. I didn't like them with the factory flares so in my opinion...spacers will be needed. Not for clearing suspension parts but to make it look better. Again, just my two cents.

If I didn't have flares, I would be using these wheels no doubt.....they are my favorite 70 series OEM wheel. Well maybe 2nd favorite.

@FJ40 that green thing did you put an arb air compressor in in yours? if so where did you mount it?
Sure did. Fit like a champ, I'm very happy with it. See my build thread here: Builds - 1996 KZJ78 Family Wagon Build - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/1996-kzj78-family-wagon-build.1273812/page-2

I used the universal mount kit by ARB (#3501010) that worked great on the inner fender on the passenger side. If your rig has the dual batteries, this spot may not work for you. I only have 1 battery and have some other mods going on under the hood. I then used the remote coupling kit and put the air connection on the front winch bumper so its super easy to just hook up a hose and use it without opening the hood or whatever. You can put the switch wherever you want, I have it on the center console. Great setup.
