GM 4200 (4.2 straight six) swap into FJ62?

That looks like it's for older car transmissions, like M22, Muncie, etc. And doesn't solve the flywheel issue. My friend Calvin's adapters have been plate adapters that go on the block to accept the 90 degree V8 pattern bellhousings. It's not a product he's selling that I know off, just one-offs for his builds, but the point is that it's been functional

That would only be needed if one wanted a heavier duty transmission like TH400, 4l80, NV4500 etc. I don't see why the AA 4l60/splitcase adapter wouldn't work on the Trailblazer version 4l60e. Then one could just buy the whole powertrain from the Trailblazer/Envoy donor

yeah 4l60's aren't the greatest, but there's something to be said for the ease of conversion

I was just pondering the swap as a 2F replacement with the 4 speed maybe 5 speed eventually.

I don't know much about this stuff, but I'm always thinking about what I"ll do when my 3FE and/or A440 crap out. This is an intriguing option, for sure.

I noticed in one of his videos that they modded the oil pan to rear sump. I'm guessing that it would be fine to run the stock front sump pan on a 60 series? I believe that 3FEs are front sump.

Nah, rear sump conversion would be a requirement for sure. Not way any kind of front sump pan would work with the front axle and steering linkages

Some flywheel info

Good video and awesome of him to give out the results of his work:

This swap has really peaked my interest. There are tons of these engines around here in the various vehicles they came in for cheap on CL. I’m watching for a deal on a 2006 + given the engine changes that seem worthy of waiting. Also thinking that if staying stock this adapter + a custom conversion plate could further simplify a swap.

712532 : Chevy V8 to the 1974-80 Land Cruiser FJ40, H42 4 speed transmission, adapter bellhousing. | Advance Adapters - https://www.advanceadapters.com/products/712532--chevy-v8-to-the-1974-80-land-cruiser-fj40-h42-4-speed-transmission-adapter-bellhousing/

and once said plate is on it would allow for an easier conversion to an NV4500 down the road.

Easy to make the turbo manifold out of the original trailblazer manifold as well.
I wouldn't do this swap without a turbo, no reason to do this over a LS if you aren't going to turbo it

Hotrod Garage bolted on a turbo/injectors and tuned a later ECU to make 400hp without opening it up. Not too shabby

Having owned a couple of Trailblazers/Envoys with this engine I think it's a fantastic option. Plenty of power and a very broad and flat torque curve; it moved the heavier Trailblazer just fine imo.

Having built a few turbo LS projects, I think it’s would be substantially easier to do a turbo 4200 with a custom log-style intake in a 60 then a turbo LS, having the intake and exhaust on separate sides and not needing a crossover tube

I've got zero need or desire for massive power, but I'm sure it would be an easier install/swap all the way around being as it's a similar sized I6. Honestly surprised it's not a fairly common swap. If I can find a good way to mate it to the H55 that's likely the route I'll go when the time comes.

Obviously this is just guessing as no one has done the swap, but I don't see how it could easier fitment wise, it's taller, wider and longer then a 2F. The LS is a V8 but the way it's shaped and how compact it is makes it easier to fit and work on in a 60 then the stock 2F/3FE lol

I think Toyota designed the 60 for a LS

It seems the length would be the only real issue; if a V8 fits then no way the width would be a problem. Height could be I guess--how much taller is it? I know the sump would need to be reversed but it seems that's not a major issue.

And, who cares about an extra 10-15 hp anyway? The real determining factor ought to be amount of torque and at what rpm. That’s what makes a wheeling cruiser anyway, not balls out tire shredding acceleration

Have you ever been able to spin a pair of 35" tires on the street? It's fun.

That sums up your personality quite well.

:flipoff2:

You broken that roof rack yet?
