So there would be snow through the mountains by Alamogordo?

I know it snowed pretty good there last week. I imagine that there is a bit. Last night it was looking like they should get it today.

Thanks for the info. Trying to complete a mapping of WS but I think we
will have to wait until the snow melts. You help is greatly appreciated.

Now it looks like what was supposed to hit the Alamogordo area has decided to head north. Getting more snow now.

Let's move to the mountains, they say!

Headed out to my land near Frost and Mountain Valley yesterday to look at the water line install and see what kind of snow and road conditions were there. The last 600' of my road was kind of sketchy. Apparently the neighbor that said he maintains the road and does snow removal won't do it if you piss him off, according to the other neighbor that lives at the end of the road. Then I proceeded to get him un-stuck from his driveway 3 times before he gave up and left it parked by the road. He was driving a Hyundai Accent with street tires. I definitely need to budget accordingly for a tractor so I'm not stuck for days the next time there is a big snow event.

Glad to hear that you are figuring this out now. You don't want to have to rely on someone else for snow removal if you can help it. Also with the Cruiser and the 4Runner, you're miles ahead of the game compared to a Hyundai with street tires!

Soon to be 2 4Runners. I'm planning on buying that '02 4Runner I posted about several weeks ago. It needs a new rear diff but not exactly sure of the failure at this point. It just makes a lot of noise when you're driving down the road. It runs, drives down the road, shifts fine, goes in and out of 4WD(LO and HI), has a new set of Michelin Defenders and the body is in good condition for 17 years old and 180K miles. So I'm giving $1,500 for it. It's amazing how small inside it feels compared to my '99 LC.

Sounds like a bargain depending on how much it needs for diff work, but hopefully you can drop in a used one without too much effort. Is that the 3.4 liter V6?

Any chance the problem is u-joints instead of the rear diff?

Those don't have a carrier bearing on the rear driveshaft, do they? I had one of those go out on a Datsun pickup once and it made a huge racket.

Yes, 3.4 V6. I will check the U-joints. That would be great if it was that instead of the rear diff. There is a growling/rumbling sound coming from the back that gets louder the faster you go. If you roll the windows down, you can't hear it as much. You have to have the windows up to really hear it.

If it's the u-joint and you need a quick fix I have boneyard slip/u-joints in stock.

Marc is this the same as the Tacoma rears? I may have a 4:10 from a 2001 pre-runner, or @barrys mentioned the take out he had

I don't have enough knowledge to know what it's the same as yet. I know it's a 2002, V6, Automatic, SR5 trim package. Rear diff is an open diff, no locker.

Once I pay the money and transfer ownership, I'm going to have it towed to my dad's house and stored until I have a house and a garage to work in. If I can find the spare time, I will likely start some disassembly and diagnostic work at dad's house. First step I think is to open the drain plug and see what comes out. That might provide some information. I will check U-joints at that point. Next, I will look at removing the third member. Might not be a bad idea at that point to go ahead and decide if I want to put new bearings on the axle shafts and new axle seals.

More snow! Got a little over 6" of good dry fluffy stuff. Coming down good. Still only 16°

I gotta go home and plow this eve. Not looking fwd to it.

Really? I love it. I'm waiting until later hoping to get enough to make it worth it. Just an excuse to play with another gas powered toy.
