I'd totally be down with this if it wasn't 4 inches high. Something flush or close to it so drawers could slide out would be best. I'd also need to be able to stand about 240 pounds on it.

Get a harness with a handle on the top. Lift the dog in and out (by handle or by handle and leash to prevent slippage)--a LOT easier on the dog's joints. Safer, too.One downside, this would make the tailgate even higher for my dog to jump up and down from, and she's nearly at her limits as it is, lol.
