Looking to replace the high pressure line in the power steering. The oem is just ridiculous price. Any opinions of any good aftermarket like the gates green stripe?

I've been running the Gates high pressure line for about 2 years now. It was easy to install, seemed high quality (as fas as I could tell), and its been working just fine.

I went with a Napa power steering hose, fit just like factory, but costs alot less money.

Gates high pressure and 400 psi Gates hose for low pressure installed with a new OEM Toyota pump. 9200 miles and no complaints. Gates has good product.

Rock auto should have them, one 18" long 3/8" for about $20 and the other one 12" long 5/8" diameter for about $15.

I've had the Gates high pressure line, Gates power steering pump rebuild kit, and Gates return/reservoir hoses for almost a year now with no problems.

Some guy posted awhile back about having a Gates pressure hose fail, but I don't think he ever provided proof of his claims.

Our observation; the aftermarket line is slightly lighter, but have fit/worked well, not sure it makes any difference. The bag and instructions have EDELMANN 92013, GATES 365550 and a few others, likely parts store private label numbers. The color, printing on the box differs, if you care about that shop by brand, if you care about $, shop by price, the part is exactly the same.

I was waiting for you to come along and give me hell about this thread. :) I think you and i went round and round in the past one time about me only using OEM parts. Now I AM ASKING about using non OEM parts. It is all good and i really respect your experience. I have lightened up some about using non OEM parts in some places. I am THINKING about doing a steering box and if do i would do the high pressure hoses as well. I did the pump and low pressure hoses a year ago. Good info to know about the non OEM parts. Thanks.

It's personal choice, in some cases I would only run OEM, others aftermarket makes sense.:meh: In this case, the metal is thinner on the aftermarket, hasn't proven to be a problem. With the OEM price, I would run aftermarket. But they are very durable, so the question is; does it need to be replaced? We have rarely replaced them, mainly from improper removal or other damage, don't recall ever having one leak.

Don't forget 44327-30030

Anyone...

My 97 LX450 is in need of some lovin' in the power steering realm. (I'm seeing fluid on low pressure hose and from the reservoir).

190k miles. As far as I know all Original PS box, pump, and hoses.

I am thinking to replace the pump, low pressure, and high pressure hoses all w/ OEM parts. (it is my daily driver).

If I take it to a shop what should I expect this job to cost me?

Pump is not whining / growling.... but as PM I am thinking to replace it at the same time.... 21 yrs is an awful long time for the bearings to hold on....

Mine was fine. My pump just leaked and I did the Toyota seal kit. The pumps in these don't typically fail unless you run them out of fluid and cook the bearings. That's actually most Toyota pumps I've seen not just for the land cruiser

Likely best to determine what is wrong and fix that? The return and suction hoses are the most often failure. The pressure hose is very durable, other than users damaging them, don't think we have ever seen one leak or replaced one.

The box and pump are extremely reliable, about the only thing that dies on them is the seals and they are easy to reseal.
