I went to start the 40 today and it just turns and won’t start. I just drove it yesterday. I have gas coming down the PS of the engine and it has to be coming from the manifold. Manifold has a leak in it and I have the replacement gasket, just haven’t had the time to put it on. There is gas getting to the carb as I can see gas in the filter. Any ideas why this would be happening? Stuck carb float?

It did stall on me yesterday morning pulling up to a red light…normally I have to give it a ‘little’ gas, but it just died and then started back up.

Where the gas is coming out is where the manifold gasket looks cooked on the top side, so probably similar underneath.

Stuck float maybe, and/but you would see gas coming out the carburetor vent. Look down the carb w/ a flashlight see if gas is puddled in the manifold.

Can’t see all the way into the manifold from the top of the carb, but gas is definitely coming out of the compromised area of the manifold gasket.

Check your oil asap! That much gas can contaminate the oil and wash bearings super fast.
Thanks for the tip. I got some of the oil out and it seems fine. Wouldn’t light with a lighter. Not sure how else to check…other than the smell test. I plan on changing the oil again once I get all this figured out.

What is your carb's porthole window telling you? Can you see the fuel level in it?

IIRC, he’s got a Weber on it.
Correct. It is a Weber 32 36. I think once I get the manifold gasket on I’ll be able to dial in the carb easier. I’ve had an exhaust leak from the manifold gasket for a while and that is exactly where the gasoline was coming from. Plus the insulator pipe…ugh.

That’s not how it works. You’ll quickly ruin the new gasket while you’re ‘trying to dial in the Weber’, while continuing to wash gas through your engine.

If you’re insistent about not moving on from your setup, I think that I read recently where another forum member was offering a well adjusted Weber. @RevISK ?

The 40 is running. I went by the Weber directions to set the idle speed screw and it cranked right up. By dial in I mean setting the idle mixture screw next, which I didn’t have a chance to get that set yet. It likely still needs a good overall cleaning/rebuild. I am open for another setup, but I just don’t know as much about these as everyone else.

Got it running like it was pre-issue.

I do need another distributor cap as the side tabs have grooves. Looks like a few LC vendors have them.
