I was curious how you got it out of there. Just brawn dragging it on the axle?

At first I think they did just drag it, but when the wheel finally fell off they winched it up onto Steve's receiver hitch and he basically towed it out. That is also how he ended up loading it onto the trailer.

The most impressive thing was that they actually got it on the trailer.

Triple cases came in real handy backing Franken80 up onto the trailer. Matter of fact, that hitch that everyone always rolls their eyes at came in pretty handy too. :)

Once we got it up onto the back of my rig, I don't think we tore up anything other than Nick's winch cable. It held, but it has some serious frays in it now. Luckily it's all right at the end so if he wants to cut it and resplice it or anything, he won't lose but 3-4'.

Some video would've been really sweet - too bad it was too dark. :frown:

When we had the ill fated trip.on 16 during gsmtr we ran into a guy who said he had a s***load of steel cable to unload. Ridge knows him I think

I want to say that's Larry. But I've seen that rig around quite a bit. I can never get a good look.

Sounds like Larry Downey. There's another one somewhere around ATL that was for sale not long ago. White if I recall.

Yes it was me as predicted. I just rolled in from CMCC. It was a long drive.
Garden trailer ... The trailer is a M716 which is a flat bed version of the M416. I only brought it as mudship favor (transported a hood for an FJ45LV up to the event).

Random connecting thought: While at Rausch Creek, there was a Nissan ExTerra event too. One morning, a group of the Nissan owners walked over to ask about the 70 but I think they were just spoiling for a fight. They asked if the 70 was a real Land Cruiser and called it a cute car. All pretense of a conversation ended.

Next time I will park the GX next to ya, that will draw them away from you. I get a lot of interesting comments on my truck, then we go on the trail and they all seem to simmer down.

Dan,
Good thought, but I never did get to see the Nissans really doing anything to get a feel for the capability of the vehicle. I tended to only encounter them on the ultra green feeder trails where they always seemed to be crawling along like it was Lower Two rather than a flat dirt track. Needless, we jumped off the feeders as quickly as possible to avoid the hold up they would have caused.

Sorry Larry-- angle of view did not allow me to see what you were exactly towing.

My mother lives in Acworth. Lets meet up next time I'm up if you are around and have time.

No issue. I was too grumpy and sensitive . Sorry. Meeting up sounds great. I am back in Texas for work so it may be awhile before we meet.

Good ol' red rusty is about to meet its maker I think. Very sad day for me tomorrow: The very first truck I ever "really" wheeled in is leaving my possession.

Unless anyone wants the good, factory SA, chassis and cab to build a beater, there will be one less 1983.5 2nd gen truck in the world very soon. :frown:

C'mon now Rance, have some respect; Can't you tell I'm mourning the loss of a loved one???

(But really, I don't have many pics of it yet; I've only owned it since July 3rd)

Sad day I know! I've got a 78 fj40 rust bucket that will go to the grave with me. Hate to see them go but some times you have to :)
