FZJ80 In the dunes?

To everyone else: You guys have low standards for excitement. Dunes are made for better power-to-weight ratio vehicles than the 80. The 80 will squish its way around anything you can put in front of it, but it won't exactly get your heart rate up.

Supacharge or turbo mo betta...

You won't win any dune climbing competition in a 80, but you can have fun and get around.

More Surf-n-Turf fun:

Thanks everyone! Took 5 little kids (just two are mine) and had some fun. Aired down to around 16 and bounced around. Kids had a blast and anymore excitement for them would have been too much :-). Glad I lowered the bump stops before the trip as I definitely hit them :-)

Pin 7 mod would have been nice to have done...next time maybe. And next time with a group...solo with that many kids makes one pretty conservative.

To the original poster: as others said, air down. I'd go 15-20ish and you can always drop a little more if you need to. If you have the pin-7 mod, lock your center and then lock the rear. It's sand so you're not going to be hurting much and you should probaby disable ABS. Stay in H on the transfer case and L on the transmission for the most part unless you're ok just snailing around. You don't need the pin-7 mod if you use L on the transfer case but you'll be bored. Overall you'll be totally fine and you'll have a blast. Driving in a straight line (or as much as the sand will let you) will allow your rear tires to follow the path your fronts leave. Don't sidehill unless you've got enough speed to make a big airplane turn on a dune (which can be fun). Be careful if you have to back down a hill you failed to climb over. Bring a shovel and keep a good attitude even if you get a little bit stuck.

Yup...my experience exactly. Will get the job done, but not in a hair raising fashion. And hill climbs aren't it's thing :-). At least not what I was doing...I bet one of these with an ls1 would be fun.

Aw that's great! The time of their little lives... :)

The sand flag was a good idea btw.

Sorry man but I call bull****! The last guy that rode with me was pale white and screaming like a little bitch, then he got sick and barfed. Maybe you just drive like a granny! :)

I have kept up with RZR 900's in the dunes before, yeah not on hill climbs, but through the dunes, all day long with a cooler of suds and the A/C on.

My wife and I are already planing our next trip down there. This time with the Lexizu. Ill let you know when we have our dates set, it will be next summer. Also want to check out browns camp? I think is what its called.

What area did you explore? I have driven in all the large dune areas down there. Lots of fun, learn very quickly what to do and what not to do.

Glad the truck preformed well. If I was taking mine on the dunes all the time it would have gotten a S/C LS7 lol

Yeah browns camp is what it's called. In the coast hills on the way to tillamook. I haven't been there for ten years but had lots of fun there in my SOA 60. I hope you'll look me up when headed this way!

I was in the south jetty area by Florence. With bump stops dropped 2" and only the ome lift I was into them a lot on the bumps. I ended up on sand trails more than open dunes because I didn't know my way around. I'll have to try it again with a group sometime. Looks like there is fun to be had.

Nice that area is fun, lots of trails along the beach and you can get to some nice dunes. Spent a week about 5 years ago exploring all the dunes. The one further south (coos bay?) is really big and a lot of fun. I wanted to drive as much of the coast as legally possible on the beach. It was a blast.

well....what else do we have here more than sand in north Sudan...20 psi is very appropriate because we have sand dunes and then some patches of small rock or gravel...then back to sand....i would advice by all means to buy a small air compressor....u never know how things go...im in no way an expert about where you are going....but as a general rule....if your going to lower psi for a specific route....it wont hurt to carry an air compressor with u....mine sits in a bag the size of about 3 tissue boxes high.
