Hey mud,

Started an engine swap recently on my 1995 tripled locked FZJ80. I’ve had the car for almost a year now and love it.

Driveline plan is r2.8 engine -> axis/advanced adapters Bellhousing adapter -> r151f Toyota 5 speed -> hf2a(v) full time 4wd tcase that came on the 80.

I want to retain my full time case.

US market r151f does not mate to the hf2av. However this combo was used in the hzj105 in foreign markets and I can get one those r151f's with a tail housing that bolts to my existing hf2av. The only problem I see is that they used a 21 or 23 spline shaft where my tcase has a 19 spline shaft.

My question is what is the cheapest and best way convert for compatible spines.... should I convert my tcase input spline or the (foreign market) r151f output spline?

Do you think the r151 will survive behind a 2.8? The 2.8 puts out much more torque than the 1hz especially if you were to retune the 2.8 like torfab did.

Thread about r151 behind turbo'd engines.

@Hoosier40 US market R150f will work with a part time case...look at my transmission. Also, there are Toyota parts to adapt the HF2A/V. You need the "Tansfer case adapter housing" "Spud shaft" shift rail and shifter socket. You can order the parts from Japan4x4.com and use the internet to find part numbers. Look up 2
1999-2009ish hzj79 parts.

I think that the r151f should be fine behind the r2.8. Lots of different opinions on the tranny, but from most of the things I've seen and people I've talked to it should be okay.

I'm thinking about just using an over seas tranny. Only problem is that those trannys run 21 or 23 output spline shafts from what I've read and my hf2a has a 19 spline input shaft. Is there a way to change the input shaft on the hf2a? If not the output shaft on the r151f?

The Hzj105 and the other R151F's for say the 79 series are not the same. The output shaft is a different part number altogether. If you get a 105 trans just make sure to get the transfer case too. then sell yours to recoup cost. You may be able to bolt your case to the 105 trans, you may be able to swap out the proper input gear if it isn't already a direct fit though I'm not exactly sure how everything would jive with the differences in cases.
