So how is your wife enjoying driving her new truck?

So how is your wife enjoying driving her new truck?

Ha ha, she hasn't had a chance yet. The paint was still drying on the trailer as we left for Moab. (and I'm still stuck in Albuquerque!) So the truck wasn't really available for her to drive before the trip.

I will post up her comments, verbatim, when I get home and she drives it for the first time.

The High Desert Cruisers really took care of me while I was in town. They're a really good group, even put together an impromptu wheeling trip that I was able to join them on. To be honest, I had more fun in NM than I did in Moab!

Very very very nice. My likey!

No cross bracing or triangulation below the roofline? hrrrm?

Lance,

I will get a couple of those new Duramax's out front washed up for you! What colors do you want? Are you on the road yet?

Not yet. I'm hoping the truck will be ready for pick up in about an hour. With any luck I'll be on the road by noon (local time).

Lance,

Do you still have that tubed out 60 with the 55 front clip on it?

Just wondering b/c I haven't seen any pics of it lately...that thing was bad a$$ too!

Gawd, that's a SWEET build. I need to win the lottery or something. Incredible work, Lance and crew.

You bet! It now has 62 drivetrain (for the efi and auto) and is linked front and rear. It's awesome, but not quite as streetable as the FZJ40. The wife and kids enjoy riding in the FZJ40, not so much so in the buggy. The kids dig it but my wife won't even let me park it in the driveway...

It's funny, all of my cars seem to be a mix of various models. The 55 has 55/60/62/80 parts in it, the 40 has 40/55/60/62/80 parts in it.... My ford is about to have a cummins 5.9 CRD out of a dodge in it.... :D

Oh Sh!t has that been done before??? That would be the ultimate tow rig!

Sounds VERY ! I looked around on IPOR website and didn't see any pics of it! Do you have them posted up somewhere or a link or something??

there's a guy locally here that does quite a few of those swaps. The older 7.3s have problems if you don't take care of the coolant and when they go cummins go in nicely.

Pics of IPOR buggy below.

Cummins swap - Yes, it's apparantly quite popular. I'm surprised that we haven't had more requests for it with all the engine conversions we do. I'm setting up a dealer account with the people who make the adapters!

Sounds like the Johnny Cash song, "one piece at a time" - he works at a Cadillac plant and smuggles parts for 20 years to build his car.

I have a 7.3 and I have to put in an anti-cavitation additive to the coolant as you mentioned. The water jacket design caused problems with cavitation and could lead to issues requiring the cylinders to be sleeved due to block erosion. This typically occurs around 120-150k miles. That's the only major issue with these engines. Take care of that and the routinely go 300k plus miles. Use the additive! A Cummins would definitely be the way to go though...

Nice build.

Also invest in some antifreeze test strips to check the PH so you know when to change the cooolant.

Sorry if we're hijacking a little, wicked build!
