Here are some pics showing the difference between SOR replacement dash pads. First is a good one, the next is one of the "blemished" variety. The pics are not great, but the first one is a very good replica of OEM - great part, as is the left side pad I also picked up from SOR. Second and third pic show a rough, pitted surface on the right side pad. It also has several raised areas (bruises?) and a glossy shine to it - not a very good part, but may be okay for those looking to save a buck if the pad they are replacing is in worse shape. Unfortunately I paid for the good one and got the blemished. I'm hoping SOR will come through with a good quality replacement or at least refund the difference in price. (we're still working on that, first contact met with less than enthusiastic response) EDIT 9-6-10: SOR never replaced or refunded the defective part.

I like the security of the full roll cage, but need to have functional Sun Visors. I asked my friend Rich (who has spent many days helping me on this project) to cut down a set of sun visors for me so that I can flip them up and down even with the cage.

The other pics show the dash going back together, and some more wiring madness...

Next is the sure power separator we use on our dual battery installs, and the bling-bling beep-beeps. :meh:

Couple of pics showing the IPOR rear fold and tumble and matching front bucket seats. Third pic shows the pewter cage on black background of "family" top from SOR. It's almost long enough to be a full length bikini top on the extended 40.

That really is an uber nice rig. It should be stable considering the tire size and actually looks quite slammed. I think the front axle could still go forward but that is a common problem with the 40 body in the 80 chassis. That brake pedal is a heck of a long way from the gas pedal. Here's hoping that doesn't bite you when you aren't paying attention.

Yeah, that's the door switch circuit and it ties into all sorts of things like the seat belt warning, courtesy lamp circuit, etc. I don't need any of those but it also ties into the headlamp auto shut off circuit - and I'd like to keep that system functional so that tag is meant to remind me that I may need modify that circuit since I don't actually have a door switch.

Must be the camera angle, the tire is in the same location as the stock 40. I moved the drivetrain back to facillitate proper placement. I figured that with the 37's I don't need it any farther forward to improve approach angles, and if it were farther forward it would scrub the front fender worse during compression at full lock steering. I wanted the fenders to mimic stock ones, and didn't want to raise them and delete the aprons. That's a good trick for gaining tire clearance without raising COG, but the look doesn't appeal to me.

The truck is stable. We have to test a lot of unique suspension designs at IPOR and while the forklift test is not 100% real world, if you know what to look for you can find problems before hitting the trail. This truck is comfortable even after it picks up a tire. It doesn't quite have the flex of my FJ55 based rock buggy with IPOR coil/link suspension setups at both ends, but given that it's a stock 80 suspension with only coils and shocks swapped out it will have plenty of travel and will still be stable like the 80 is. I'm sure if I get used to driving this truck I will start flopping the buggy... well, more than I already do that is...:o

The brake pedal is a stock 80 unit that has not been relocated yet. In addition to being on the far left it's also a little high. I wanted to drive it and figure out where my comfort zone is, then move it. 40's have an uncomfortable gas pedal position, this pedal is in a slightly different place that I think will be better. I expect the final resting spot for the brake will be different too.
 
Looking Great lance, so how much for the 5 min ride and drive like at the state fair?? Does it go up off pavement?
 
THe front of the 80 suspension is limited in flex due to the binding of the leading arms. Looks awesome guys!!

I don't remember reading it, so i apologize if this has been answered, are you going to have Air Conditioning?

Yeah, there should be a whole section earlier in the thread about the AC. If not there are pics on the iron pig website - Iron Pig Off Road : Toyota 4WD experts . We got that much installed over the weekend, everything went right into it's place. Looks great, can't wait to fire it up and see how well it works. I'll have heat but not AC before the trip to Moab in March. I don't have the lines for the refrigerant made yet.

That's true about the radius arms. My shocks (L series OMEs) limit the front suspension well before the radius arms bind. I think that will be more of a maintenance issue with keeping the bushings in good shape than a limiting factor for the truck. Even that isn't really a big concern for me as my 80 ran the poly OME bushings which are more susceptible to wear than the stock rubber ones and I drove it for years with no problems. This truck has stock rubber bushings.

Man that looks awesome!

I've recently bought a FJ73 (MWB) with injected 5l v8, was just going to use the motor and box in my FJ40 and wreck out the rest, but you've got me thinking of strecthing the 40 body onto the middys chassis now.
