Lance be VERY careful putting line x on right after paint, it is know to pull the paint off when they take the tape off, something about the hot spray techinique they do. Norms paint came off after a year. just and FWI.

Yeah, most of the Line-X installers buy cheap tape through line-x and we've had some headaches too. We've tightened down on the local shop and when they follow proper Line-X defined procedures we have very few problems. I'm bringing my own tape this time... I'm still nervous...

~ Remember; Birfield Bearings in someones bumper might be fun for a weekend, but a Brook Trout stuffed in your buddies hubcap is fun all Summer!
Ben

Well Cam, you heard him - he wants a fish instead of birfield balls... We may have to substitute a salmon from China instead of a brookie, they aren't in season around here 'till mid April... That's okay the illegal levels of mercury in Chinese raised fish shouldn't affect this application... Just for good measure let's put it in the headliner instead of the hubcap.

Lance
PS - you're not the only one sweating the IPOR balls these days... eh, hem... I mean, they had my motor open without me there to witness it over the weekend... Hope I didn't get 'balled' in my number 5 cylinder or something...

You can see it's a high mileage motor with little maintenance by the coking of the oil.

good thing Cam sells stuff over the phone, because he sure doesn't have a face for TV :grinpimp:

I'm still amazed at how that sucker is coming along....I wish I had $30k to blow on some work.....

Mar-Hyde rubberized paintable undercoat. I like the tar based stuff for durability, but it's a mess when you're working on the truck down the road. This stuff is pretty tough and doesn't rub off all over you.

Fantastic work Lance.

Did you get my package of swag?

What can I donate to this project?

Best,

Shane

Thanks Shane. We did get a package of samples last year - thanks. Nice OEM reproduction stickers - good stuff. Do you have any FZJ40 OEM reproduction stickers - :D?

Big day today, but no pics yet. Got the body back on the frame, and laid the sound/heat lining. Jack and I left the shop about 8pm and I was lucky to catch Brandon at the paint shop just in time to pick up the rear doors before the line-x appointment. Truck looks awesome!

What kind of sound/heat lining did you use and how is it applied? Is it something you can Line-X over?

Thermo-Tec heat/acoustical barrier. Obviously I'm using it more for the heat reducing properties than sound damping. It's basically the standard asphalt sheeting (like used by Toyota from the factory) with a layer of aluminum foil on the top.

I called Thermo-Tec and they had no experience with using Line-X over top of their product, but said that the 130* temperature on application would only help their product to adhere better. If you've used this stuff before (and we have) that statement is almost humorous in that once this stuff is down it's nearly impossible to remove. (we stuck a slab to Cam's toolbox as a joke and no one has been able to remove it to this day - oops!)

Anyway, I sent a sample (already applied to a test sheet of steel) to our local Line-X dealer and had him spray it just to make sure. He says it went on well, no problems.

I will know for sure by about 5pm today...
