Fuel pump recall

I may be completely wrong, but I believe the "seam" is merely Velcro holding the two sections of carpet together. If I'm correct, it would hopefully be a simple matter to pull the passenger section apart and forward to access the fuel pump. I certainly hope this is the case, as I also have ARB drawers and don't look forward to removing them. . .

Well, you are correct that it's only a velcro strip holding the carpeting sections together there, but they go all the way across, no fore-aft seams. And, it's really tight under there, I can barely fit my fingers under the bottom/front edge of the drawer cabinet. Doesn't seem likely that they would be able to fold/slide the carpeting out, but perhaps it is.

In my case it's irrelevant, as I have several more wiring projects planned for the spring that requires the drawers to come out (and the side panels removed), so I'm just waiting until then for the recall appointment.

Any other experiences? Ive heard that we need to remove drawers and such but also a conflicting view that they can access the pump via an access port under the rear seat. So which is it? Do i need to pull everything out of the cargo area? TIA?

I just had the recall done on Friday. I didn't remove anything that I had permanently mounted in my cargo area. They dropped the tank and did the recall that way. I don't know why they wanted to drop the tank vs. going in from the top. They did say they've been doing 3-4 of these fuel pump recalls per day for the last couple months, (across many different models) so hopefully they knew what they were doing.

Anyone had this done yet? Having mine done 11-24-20, and I hope all goes well.

I did mine the day before yesterday; it took about 4 hours. They had some issues removing my fuel tank. Other than that, no issues so far.

I thought about doing that too, but I didn't pull the trigger. I now regret it

Yeah, they wanted to drop the tank on mine and were concerned about the skid plates. I asked them why not go through the cab and they said instructions say drop the tank and they cant deviate

This is after calling them and them telling me they didnt have to drop the tank

I told them never mind and going to go pickit up

Had mine done ... Slee Skid Plate System did not seem to an issue.

Not really sure. I guess I should have asked more questions. I was worried about having to remove the drawer, so I just wanted to let others know that was not required.

Has anyone noticed a decrease in fuel tank capacity after getting the pump recall completed? just realized the other day that the max capacity of my tank is now ~18gal... had this done a few months ago but never really noticed because I'm driving a lot less these days. Shaving ~6 gallons off a thirsty truck is not good. I'm def going to make a follow-up appt at the dealership, but again, curious if anyone experienced the same.

Wait…what?! Are you sure? Range is bad as is…killing 4-6 gallons is disastrous. That makes LC basically a mall crawler.

Just curious, what method are you using to measure this new, different, fuel tank capacity?

I suppose you're talking about the gauge. I don't believe you lost actual tank capacity....

agree- 4-6 loss is insane. my method of measure is very rough though - saw my range on the dash dwindling down to single digits and filled up the tank. gas pump shows ~18 gallons. unless the range is wildly conservative, I feel like my tank capacity is well below the stated ~25.

There is no way you lost substantial tank capacity. Your gauge may read differently, but the volume of fuel cannot have changed significantly.

How could swapping out the fuel pump change the capacity? I would fill your tank and a couple gallon gas can, then drive it until it’s almost bone dry to really see what your capacity is.

If the pump is inside the tank, the volume of the pump affects the remaining volume within the tank.
