If the pump is inside the tank, the volume of the pump affects the remaining volume within the tank.
No kidding. The pump is obviously inside the tank. However, there would need to be a massive volume change in the pump to displace several gallons of fuel.

Yikes, is this the proper procedure for the replacement? I’m on the list for a replacement and would not be happy if I lost any more capacity

4 gallons is equivalent to 924 cubic inches. That’s roughly a 10” cube of space that would need to be lost in the tank. I don’t think so...

What is the location of the OLD fuel pump? Inside tank or outside?

And the new pump is located where?

The old pump is in the tank. The new pump is in the tank. It's been this way since they started putting EFI in vehicles.

There's no way a replacement pump would displace 4 additional gallons of fuel.

Guys- i hope i'm just being an idiot here with my admittedly rudimentary ways of thinking there is lost capacity - i.e. using a combination of seeing on E on the gauge / single digit estimated range on the display / and monitoring the fuel put into the truck at the pump. I have no idea what the reserve capacity is while the tank reads E, and i havent had the time to to drive around waiting to stall out to accurately measure. Was just curious if anyone else noticed something weird after fuel pump replacement...

If we stick apples to apples comparison - Can folks who have done the pump replacement, post what their "cruising range" reading is after fillup? I'm getting 244 miles.

Wow…that is weird. My cruising range after fuel up is around 310-320 miles. I have NEVER had cruising range under 300 after fuel up.

What was your cruising range average BEFORE the recall?

THANK YOU.
Ok - so i'm not crazy.
Cant remember the reading prior to replacement (just had the truck for 1 yr now), but the low 300s sounds right.

That’s not terribly surprising. What tires are running? I’ve noticed a decent decrease when I put on Nitto RG 285/75/17 tires. I average about 11.7mpg according to the display. Currently it’s says my range is 227mi. and my fuel gauge needle is right on the F. This is why my LC is going to sit in the garage when I’m running errands for now on. Going to the gas station ever three days is ridiculous.

My LC has stock sized KO2. And i drive like a grandma. But, damn, you guys have horrible range! :(

Lol! I’m a bit of a speedy driver according to the grandparents 🤷🏻 and I pay the price at the pump for it. 🤣 When I do drive like a grandma, my fuel range is closer to 320. Time to put the 200 in the garage for errands and use the Macan more. My youngest has almost convinced me to get an electric. I’m over the the constant gas station runs. One of the reasons, I’ll end up in golf cart community in Florida. 😜😂

Well, back in the day, when I had 2003.5 BMW M3 SMG, i would take it to the track. Since then, i have had mostly boring cars and SUVs. While some may disagree here, i think that my LC is a lumbering clumsy mass of steel…and i just drive at a leisure rate. Probably having KO2s does not help with my confidence level around a corner in the LC. :D (I am pretty much a chicken-s*** when it comes to driving non-sports cars.)

I agree 100%. That’s one of the reasons I ditched my previous set of KO2. Granted my RG aren’t that great around corners and in fact might be a bit worse on dry pavement. However, it’s a much grippier tire in the wet and my confidence level has increased tremendously over my previous KO2. My ICON suspension allows me a bit too much confidence in cornering as my wife has to remind to slow down 😎😁. Every year I get older, my speed drops. 🧓🏻

agree- 4-6 loss is insane. my method of measure is very rough though - saw my range on the dash dwindling down to single digits and filled up the tank. gas pump shows ~18 gallons. unless the range is wildly conservative, I feel like my tank capacity is well below the stated ~25.

Both Range and Gauge are very conservative.

One general rule of thumb is when your Fuel Warning Light comes on (for me, usually when Gauge is at or below E and Range has well passed 0) there are still 3-4 gallons of fuel left in the tank.

Did your Fuel Warning Light ever come on?

HTH

Exactly. My fuel light came on, I drove 11 miles (average of about 10mpg as I was towing our trailer), and still had 4 gallons when I got to a station.

running stock sized KO2s...which came with the truck and couldve sworn previous fillups gave me an estimated range beyond 300.... but looks like i was not giving the range calc enough credit - did not know it recalibrates to historical driving style and thought it was simply taking fuel tank capacity / divided by some LC city avg MPG

thanks- good to know - i've seen the light come on just a few times and while approaching 0 range... this usually syncs up with an irate wife angrily side-eyeing me the whole time until we hit a gas station

Had mine done yesterday, dropped it off in the AM and was done this morning, had a RX450H Loaner, was nice, had not driven one before.
I called my dealer about the recall almost 2 months ago, took a while to get the parts, but they got it in late last week.
When I dropped it off it was almost on Empty, Range said I had about 20 miles left, they filled back up with 18.8 Gal.

Had my pump replaced this morning. 2019 LC200. They dropped the tank to do the work...took about 1.5 hours total, maybe a little less.

Are you sure they dropped it?
I watched them put it on a lift and drop it down, which completely surprised me. Maybe because I have drawers in the rear, but they didn't so much as mention that there was a "challenge". That being said, a friend of mine (former automotive engineer for Honda) advised that on a '19, the top access cover is under the second row passenger seat, which shouldn't have been an issue even with drawers.
