Fuel pump recall

You are right, of course, I was just tossing out a snarky post. Pisses me off that I gotta pull out my drawers and all the wiring for this repair. Not that I would let them, but I wonder what would happen if I just made them deal with it. I wonder if they would refuse? Curious...
Unfortunately they'd probably tell you they weren't doing it, or charge you for the extra labor. Unless you've got a really good dealer.

I get the sentiment though. Even with a "free" repair it's still often a PITA to take your vehicle in so they can fix it. I do feel like the "safety" recalls become a bit of a stretch, but I guess it's to avoid any possible chance of a lawsuit. That said in my experience the dealer will fix your recall at any point in the future, so if you don't bother with the fuel pump and drive another 5 years and then it goes out just have it towed to the dealer or give Toyota the repair receipt and they'll reimburse you for it. In fact in my (limited) experience they'll pay for the tow as well.

Had my fuel pump recall done last week 11/25. My dashboard lit up this morning, pulled the codes on it and they are P0171 P0714. Does anyone has the same experience?

Just had mine done on the 2015. Had less than a 1/4 tank. Took an hour and a half and no codes or anything yet.

To those that have had this done: did the dealer drop the tank, or access what they need from the interior? I've got a bunch of stuff mounted in the cargo area and want to know whether I need to remove it before taking the LX in.

I called the dealer a few days ago and they looked into this question; they said they will drop the tank and that I do not need to remove anything from the cargo area. Is that accurate? I'm concerned because this dealer has made mistakes (ahem) before, but they are the only option within a ~5 hour drive. After the last episode (which ended up costing them at least $15k) I'm sure they will be incredibly diligent, but nonetheless, I want to double check.

The dealer I contacted for my '15 LC tells me they do it from the inside. So I have to remove my ARB drawers.

Ugh. Damnit.

Anyone know the pros/cons of doing it from the outside vs inside?

My dealer wants the LX for 5 hours (which is fine by me - I just want it done right). I wonder whether that's them wanting to take the "longer" way to make things easier for me (they know I have a lot of stuff in the back), or whether that's them not knowing the job.

I wouldn't think drawers have to be removed. Mine was replaced and they simply removed middle passenger seat and lifted up carpet to access fuel pump door. At least that's what my Toyota service guy told me. Tank did not have to be dropped or anything in cargo area messed with.

Where did they lift up the carpet from? One seam is under the front row seats, and the other is behind the second row, which is now under my drawers.

I'm not worried about it too much. I'm gonna wait until spring when I have some other wiring projects planned, and I have to pull the drawers out anyway. I'll deliver the truck to them with the drawers out, 2nd row seats out, and the big rear plastics removed. They're gonna love me, I might even pull the carpeting for them.

You don't need to remove the rear trim to get to the tank access. The carpet peels up from right behind the second row seats.

Thats what I thought. It was similar location on my 80 when I change the pump and that is what the FSM looks like. Shouldnt have to remove drawers or skid plate

Oh, I know that. I need to get under there anyway to put some more wires in, that's all. I'll look again tomorrow when I'm loading up for my dump run, but I seem to remember that edge of the carpet that has to be peeled up is pretty deep under the drawers. Thanks, great photo. I have this photo in my archive to compare, I'm also worried about that fuse panel.

So, what's that big gray thing in the lower left of your photo? Some sort of computer? A fan? I assume the fuel pump access is by that yellow thing.

Sorry, I don't know what that big grey thing is. Yes the fuel pump access is just to the left of that big yellow thing on the passenger side. You have to take off an air duct to get to it.
