Planning for an LRA 40 gallon tank installation soon with the currently installed 3fe. However I anticipate an LS swap maybe in the next year or so. Ideally I'd like to build the fuel tank system once. Burntoast thread mentions using the Denso 950-0226 pump with the LS.

1: is that pump compatible / the best choice for use with the LRA tank?
(Edit- yes it works w the LRA tank)

2: would the 3FE regulator handle the increased pressure for the interim before LS swap?
(Edit - no it doesn’t)

Is there a better plan for my timeline? Or will I just need to drop the LRA and reconfigure at the time of LS swap?

1-Install Lra tank with supplied 62 fpm extension and go.
2- Install Lra tank with same supplied extension switch pump out to said pump and go.
3- Install Lra tank with tanks inc fuel pump module and adapter ring that I make. Make fuel lines to adapt to 6an to your existing fj62 oem hard lines and go.
4- leave it alone till you decide ti ls swap then do #3 and go.

Ok so my stock fuel pump only lasted 35 years... is no longer flowing any fuel... so I guess it dictates the need to drop my tank now.

You didn't explicitly say, but are you implying that the 3Fe & it's regulator could handle the Tanks Inc pump (or another LS pump)?

Where is this adaptor you speak of? I don't see any links in your sig?

thx

The only reason I didn’t go tanks inc is that their pump is a Walbro. You could go with that setup and then swap the Denso if you want. I wanted OEM reliability and noise (both which may or may not be issues with Walbro.

Assuming the stock fuel pressure regulation is working, I can’t see an issue with the new pump (either one)

Here's a pic of Tommy's adapter, I used the Walbro 190LPH pump and have had no issues with it and it's pretty quiet. I only hear it priming pre start up.

I'm pretty sure the 3fe fuel pump regulator will handle the pressure you can use the 3fe pump to power an ls engine so why not tye opposite. The adapter isn't in my signature if you have any questions feel free to send me a message about it. Just saw in what you did with your 60 thread that you have your new tank. Before you modify your 62 fuel pump module I would consider doing the tanks inc setup and selling your 62 one to someone in need of it for there factory rig those modules or hanger are getting very hard to come by yours looks to be in good shape from what I could see.

Good to hear. Yeah I searched that part no here on mud last night and see there’s quite a few people using it. I’d probably have it in this evening but I forgot to order the flange gaskets for the pump hanger and sender 😡

Were you able to find one locally? If not I'm pretty sure I have a spare one for an FJ62.

Appreciate that. I just picked up some gasket material to make them. Hope to have the new tank back in today or tomorrow.

I’d definitely hold off until you get some rubber ones at the very least! I wouldn’t trust paper gasket material with fuel fumes.

Last night I primed the fuel line then started up and ran in the shop. Got it up to operating temp and everything was great, I could tell the pump was on but barely heard it. I got on the road this morning and this pump started whining as heard here. It was consistent all the way to work, barely any change at all stop light or during acceleration. Granted there’s no sound deadening in right now, but the old pump was silent so this is a huge difference. The whine drops a bit when I stab the throttle - I’m wondering if this whine is due to the lower PSI regulation for the 3FE? Tank has about 15 gallons of fuel and there’s at least 1/4” clearance from the tank to the bottom of the pickup filter, so I don’t think it’s a supply problem. I’ve got an adaptor coming to test the pressure at the rail but the engine is running excellent. Did I get a defective pump? Any thoughts?

Uh Houston we have a problem!
that pump does not sound so good did you get it from temu?

lol no

This was after work, got in and started it up… quiet then loud. Stayed loud all the way home.

Guess I’m pulling this tank right back out 😡

Ok I did some troubleshooting tonight. Installed a fuel pressure gauge. At idle it holds 50psi and the pump is silent. When I blip the throttle the intake manifold pressure drops, which lets the fuel regulator ramp up and my gauge pegs out to the mechanical limit and stays there - which is well above 80psi (where the gauge numbers stop).

I removed the return line at the tank and let that feed into a gas can to make sure there were no return restrictions… there aren’t.

I did a bit more than that, but the conclusion is that the stock regulator can’t drop enough pressure/flow for this pump. I think the fuel line pressure is too high causing back pressure on the pump which is causing the whine. It’s consistently dead quiet until I blip the throttle.

So at this point I’m thinking I’ll just get a 3FE pump and I’ll have to address the pump again when it’s time for the LS.
