Hi everyone,
I have a question for the group. Has anyone used these fuel cans? They are 5 gal blitz "old style" non carb with a vent. I know that the scepter MFC's are better, but outside my budget for now. My bigest concern is leaks as I will be carrying these inside the vehicle. Here is a photo.
Thanks Russ

The main cap looks odd (improvised non-OEM?) but in any case I would not carry a fuel can with a plug-in vent (if that's what it is) inside for anything more than a few blocks in an emergency and maybe not even that if I can avoid it. I do have some, if that matters. The last time I had a can inside with a "plug the vent" design, for water in fact, it did leak and spill. Maybe the plug was less well built than in a fuel can but that was also without the gas fumes pressure. So, no, I would not. YMMV of course.

Never put one of those inside the cabin area of your car. Unsafe and unreliable. What happens if you get into an accident? You think that little plastic plug is going to hold? Or will it pop off and pour highly flammable gas all throughout the cab of the rig just begging to ignite with you in it.

Sorry to be blunt but saving a few bucks is not worth your life.

Find a way to store it outside the cab. no matter what kind of fuel can you should never have it inside with you.

Speaking of Scepter MFC cans, where can I buy some? All the info I can find about retailers is old.

I'm the not so proud owner of two skin grafts..... don't roll the dice on that fuel "can" inside your truck...very dangerous.

I've got two 5 gallon new style gov "approved" metal cans with the crappy fuel funnel... that I have mounted on a bumper mounted swing arm.

Give these guys a call/email. AJIK Overland Exchange

They don't list them on their website, but I bought two used (but in very good condition) MFC's from them for a pretty decent price.

I believe they don't list them on the site because their stock changes, but they might not have any at the moment. But given how hard these can be to come by lately, it's worth a shot.

VanGo sells the MFC's pretty quickly when he gets them in stock. If you let him know you are interested, you can get on the "list", and when he gets some you would find out before the posting in Mud...this is what I did. The cans are not cheap anymore, but less than driving up to Canada.

What do Scepter MFC's look like? Anyone with a picture?

that is correct #37 is a scepter, the same can the us millitary uses. scepter can empty quick, doesnt leak with the right gasket matched to the fuel type stored in can, will take a beating, arent noisy even empty, being plastic they do shuff up but not easily. Only downside is soursing some than paying the going rate and if you leave them in the sun they bloat a little making it harder to open without some leverage like a strap wrench or the tool they make for the cap

Or look at Rotopax - more expensive, but may give you additional options...

USED Scepter 20L fuel can source.

Here is a good source for USED Scepter 20L fuel cans: rebel_ag05@yahoo.com Send request to Sean. Below is an example of the condition of the cans. In my experience, the cans are well USED, but usable once serviced.

If are like what I have you will be happy with them.

I do like them. One unique feature they have is a removable rod that goes across the lid to keep it from popping open.
