If you purchase the correct OEM plugs they come with the correct gap.
ND W 16EXR–U11 or NGK BPR5EY 11. The "11" is 1.1mm gap. You also might want to have a look at my tune up thread here:

Great info in your linked thread, are you suggesting that with some maintenance the 3fe isn't quite the pig every claims it is? I'm working through most of that list now, slowly but surely.

People who have no real world ownership experience with a 3FE equipped 80 will say many things, but it's not the children's fault. I blame the parents.
 
My Corolla Has a Specific Instruction to not gap the plugs.
I know specifically to not Gap Iridium plugs else risk trashing them. The center electrode is super fine.
For the OEM Denso Plugs you should be fine to gap them.

**They will not last anywhere near as long as Iridiums or Platinums, but good luck getting those 2 out after 100K anyhow.
