I sat in the 24 Tacoma limited 4 door, and it was super super tight in the back seat, but the front 2 seats were pretty nice. Looks like a miniaturized version of the current tundra. They basically tried to shove more tech into the same sized vehicle. They should have made it slightly bigger or done better space management.

Does not look kid friendly unfortunately. At least not for kids who need child safety seats with parents who are average height or above. But also doesn't look very friendly to a group of adults. Kinda only fits people in the back for short trips. Much like the current one. Not a viable option for me to own unless it is a dedicated offroad vehicle that is trailered to the off road places. I was kinda hoping it would have enough cabin space for a relatively tall adult in front of a kid seat. I can do that in a Rav4 or a 4Runner. But the Tacoma is just too small. As is the Tundra double cab. I'd love to see a version with a cab extended to match a 4Runner rear seat room.

We know the Tundra has more room in the back -- it's a bigger truck.

How was the driver seat positioned in those pictures? Looks like there is only a couple inches left.

There is probably 4 or 5 inches from where my seat is to the maximum back the seat can go, but the footwell is huge so you shouldn’t have any problems unless you are the tallest guy in the NBA

What about for the Taco? Was the driver seat your position or all the way back?

That's a crewmax tundra right? I have a 2016 Crewmax. Tons of space in the rear seats. I love the room. Was really surprised to see Toyota make it smaller on the new one. It would be fine for me - but it's around 2 inches less leg room IIRC. For me (I'm 6'3") I could not fit a backward child seat in the rear of a double cab Ram and still sit in front of it. With the front seat against the kid's seat I could not physically fit my knees between the seat and dash. Only way it worked for me was to have rear facing seat in the middle fitting between the two front seats. Possibly a double cab Tundra is a bit bigger? Once the kids are bigger I could probably do a double cab for at least 5ish years until they start to get too big to ride comfortably in the back.

The Tundra double cab backseats are practically unusable in this new generation. Toyota made them significantly smaller compared to the previous gen. The previous 2nd gen had a big enough back seat in the double cab that you could comfortably fit adults back there whilst still having a comfortable driving position.

Yeah that’s a crewmax. That is the common option. I haven’t seen a double cab in a long time, if ever. I haven’t worked here at the dealership long but I’ve seen a lot of tundras, and all the ones that got here were crewmaxes. I honestly see no reason at all to get a double cab, because even the crew max comes with 6 foot beds. Double cab can come with an 8 foot bed but 8 foot bed tundras are super super super rare

I think Toyota missed the mark a bit on the new Tundra design. The cab-back design prioritizes styling over utility and it really shows in the new cabin and bed. The cabin could be around 4-6 inches forward and that would give enough room to have decent leg room in the rear of a double cab and a 6.5' bed in the same footprint. As it is - I think the double cab is only for short distances in the back or a spot for the dog and/or tools.

My guess is that they did that to make room for the iforce max powertrain because it has an electric motor between the engine and transmission, but yeah that was one of my first impressions as well. The hood is massive. It feels like driving a super duty truck, even though it is just a half ton

Am I the only one who doesn't want a half ton truck the size of an F450?

Nope. I feel like it is too big but it still feels good to drive but I wouldn’t own one

No. Some people want a midsize truck the size of an F450. :)

I love the space of a crewmax. But I'd be really happy with a truck the size of an LC300 first and middle row and a 5 foot bed behind it.

I work in Cambridge, where the parking garages are relatively small. Driving a full-size truck in there would be a royal pain the backside.

Makes sense

I’m in North Carolina and pretty sure the best sold car here in the state is a pickup

Toyota got it right with the 1st gen Tundra. Perfect size and a V8. Everything else has been too big.
