Scouring eBay for parts when i located what looked to be some similar to FJ60 style door handles, described as hilux handles. I thought for the price ($20 a pair!) i would give them a try.

They came today and look excellent. exact fit. the only mod required is pulling the paddle striker deal off the old handle (held on by a screw) and getting it on the new one. The black ones do not have the threaded hole, so you can either use a nut and bolt or tap it. I will probably just tap it. Now i just need my @TRAIL TAILOR fender vents to match! Pics below...

They went fast

I plan on sourcing new or used OEM 60 series handles, removing the chrome and having them poowder coated a matte black. Need to do up new gaskets though, but I think just cutting up some gasket material to match should work. Unless I can get brand new handles, which I'm told by @beno come with gaskets. That would be nice too.....

Nice... I need to replace or repair my driverside one. Think one of the retainer springs for the handles has broken or come off because I have to open at one side for it to actually disengage the latching mechanism.

Installed mine but decided to paint them to match what I did to the fender vents and D-pillars.
FYI I did need to shave down the arms of one handle and slightly open up one of the bolt holes but all and all it worked out as hoped.

If the eBay link runs out (saw there was only 1 pair left), Rockauto has Needa brand handles for $13 and $19 respectively for left and right sides, black or chrome. Looked up for an '85 4Runner.

Looking to get the same set to match my TT front and rear black vents like you. Wanted to get some help/advice from you. What do you mean by the only mod required is pulling the paddle striker deal off the old handle (held on by a screw) and getting it on the new one?

Also, so these do not have the threaded hole? How can I attach to my rig?

Thx for the help!

so I just used a bolt and but to attach the little paddle that is threaded on the oem ones. The back handles... well I couldn’t get them to work since they have a larger “arm”the paddle attaches to. So I just had my oem ones powder coated to match. Hope that helps!

Hey gents. Sorry to dig up a old post.
But I ran into the same problem, so I was looking for solutions via google and found this forum and post regarding the doorhandles but sadly no solutions or (custom)parts regarding the back doors.
So I came up with something myself.
It works for me. Maybe it works for you too.

Please feel free to reach out and ask me questions if you have any. 🤙🏻

Well done!

I did my front doors several years ago (which are getting chipped up again and the plastic gaskets are falling apart) but still have the ones I ordered for the rear sitting in their boxes in my garage. I should go ahead and order new fronts so I can swap em in and finally install the rears too.
