Got some work done this weekend. Got the broken Exh manifold bolt out of the head and the bad freeze plug.

I also just hung the 5.3 in the 80 to try and clear up the manifold mess.

I must say it is encouraging, to get it in there and just look at what I'm dealing with.

There are some small issues, I need to bend the P/S pump fill/return line so it will clear the steering box. Also need to cut down the AA motor mounts, as they are stick out about a 1/2" past the frame rails, while the motor still needs to come down a few more inches

But on the most encouraging note, I think The exhaust manifold question is now answered. The Truck manifolds really are not as bad as I had thought. But seeing how close they are to working makes me feel like the 2010-2015 Camaro manifolds will work. Im finding them on ebay for 160 a set. I hope to order them by the end of the week.

Manifolds came in today. Check out the
difference. Here is the truck manifolds

Should be able to set this in Sunday if all goes according to my plans.

Thanks for picto-menting the swap and for including the $$$ for all the tid bits.

Sorry for this dumb question but are you doing similar to other conversions when it comes to the manifolds and oil pan or are you going a diff route?

Working for Marlin, I bet you have some advantages that us mere mortals don't!!!

^^^^^ can't be stressed enough, thank you!

Your welcome guys I will do the best I can With the pics and prices.

As for the Oil pan Yes I bought the Muscle car oil pan kit from Summit racing. It was 149 & It came with the oil pan, oil pickup tube, dipstick, & windage tray. Very common for an LS Swap.

I got the Ex manifolds for 150 On ebay used. They came off of a 2011 Camaro With the LS In It, Also very common for LS Swaps

As for working at Marlin Im just a regular guy just like every one here, I gained much of skills as a Heavy Duty Diesel Tech, Before I worked here at Marlin.

But working here you do learn alot & have a wealth of knowledge around you for help!

Got some good work done this weekend.

I first mated all the adapters together on the back of the trans.

Then I slotted the crossmember bolt holes, & slammed it in place!:hillbilly:

Motor Mounts looking Good

Seems Like there is so much room Underneath!

New pan gives me a lot more clearance mostly as its offset to the right away from the front diff! :bounce2:

Manifolds are still a little close but not the end of the world. I hope :worms:

Then I yanked it out and clearance the fire wall with a BFH on the pass side. Gained about a 1/2 of clearance.

I also fabbed up some scab plates, & burned them in place.

I love my welder, the wire feed is detachable and has 8ft leads. So i can set it up in my garage & set the wire feed by what I am working on. :smokin:

Who makes those motor mounts?
I am glad to see that the muscle car pan looks like it will work (instead of the almost $400 F-body pan kit)
and seeing these pictures is getting me more excited to start my LS swap in my 91.

Ben

Those are AA motor mounts had to chop about 3/4 off each side & slot them but they are great!

At first I was unhappy with the pan but used it anyway as i diddnt see as much of a benefit until I had it in the rig!

Im getting excited to glad you guys are!

Just noticed this awesome thread today. You have documented this so well and included very pertinent info which seems to be the mystery left out of other swap threads. The cost is not as high as I had imagined and you have me thinking. I rolled my 94 recently so I bought a 93 that's rough other than a rust free straight body and frame. Was planning to swap in my rebuilt 1FZ from the 94 since the replacement has 268 on it(but running strong and smooth). Now you have me considering selling both power trains and the elocker axles on the 93 for funds to help do this LS swap. Thanks for giving me one more decision to make! :worms:

PORN, more please..... I may never do this swap but sure do enjoy learning the process.

Hahah, Yea California has its pros and cons. Ive seen them with no cats here as well, just one 02 for air/fuel mixture and your off. I know a programmer that can even make the monitor complete for the obd2 readiness monitors. But we have a visual inspection as well here.

There are two factors here, whats legal and what fits?

I know that the 1st 02 sensor can only be so far away from the manifold, and the 02s can only be so far from the cats. But exactly how much leway, I cant seem to find that info.

I want to run it out board, just like the factory but True dual. Since the 05 5.3 only has two cats from the factory & 4 02 sensors one just before and after each cat I should be able to do whatever I want behind the Rear 02.

Any Thoughts?
Colorado seems to be close in emissions standards. I was planning on buying the HP tuners platform to try and tune everything myself. Have you looked into buying the software?

Nice! I have considered that as well for the future as Im always working on something but i got mine done for 75 locally so win/win
