fj80 cummins swap

What are you doing about generating vacuum for the brakes? Do you plan to use OEM sensors for oil pressure and coolant temperature? It seems to me that I can use the Toyota sensors by drilling and tapping into the block (for oil pressure).

I haven't figured out to do the tachometer or speedo though. Do know whether the Vehicle Speed Sensor can be modified or reused somehow?

Ladies love it when the fj80 cummins all over them

yes i used the sensors from the 3fe becuse they are calabrated to the gauges in the dash they fit in the cummins block with adapter in stock cummins threaded bosses.
the vaccum diaphram is on the power steering gear/pump it is off of a later model cummins as the first gen diaphram is a dual diaphram and there is no clearance for the second diaphram. my brakes work fine. i have not started on the speedo or tach the tach is kinda tricky as for the speedo it should be straigh forward and only thinkg needed would be a 'gear reduction" to make it accurate adapter and threaded adpaters to get the cable and housing to bolt to the trans, there are aftermarket tinyy tachs and electric speedos i might look in to but they are not cheep and i want to use the stock guage cluster for all i can (tach, oil pressure, water temp, voltage, fuel level.

one of my post explains how to use the stock harness and sensors for oil/water temp, it is very easy. the hardest part was finding the correct wires in the harness hooking it all up was a breez.
codyc is dead on with the sensors and vaccum pump just make sure its a wabco single diaphram as the dual diaphram will not fit. the wabco is stock on later model cummins but can be had for around$300 on ebay. make sure you run the oil line to the bottom of the pump as it will burn up otherwise, my buddy did this, it is a high pressure line and you should use the stock line rather than making one unless you have a flang tool and now how to make high pressure lines.
i think i found a trans and AA,tcase.

Kinda funny, I just got the 3FE in the photos you took out back here in Austin to start rebuilding.

Theres a turbo for it in the for sale parts section, Dare Ya !

Im curious about the different diaphram pumps maybe you can elaborate what you know? I have a faulty diaphram (91 non IC motor) and cant find a re-seal for it, presently I have an electric vacume that has blown a couple vacume pressure switches and I want to get rid of the electric pump that runs all the time (stops better though)

can you tell me if the different pumps are interchangable and if there is any probs involved, anything else I should know? I like the idea of getting more junk out of the engine compartment. :hhmm:

Thanks!

Can't hardly wait to see it completely done!:bounce2::bounce:

Wow....

Thats what I get for slacking on the board. A 6bt swap in my backyard and I'm snoozing.... Ahhhhh family life.

Awesome build, and I hate you.

x2.

Ammo tells me you have a shop in town?

sort of... i personaly do not. my buddy has a body shop that we use for the shop space for our personal projects. we started doing the conversions but pulled the plug on that end of the business after a few conversions due to the economy. we have two cruisers in the restoration/swap process mine and his fj55 gaser.
we won't be advertising or investing much energy in the conversions, basicly if someone wants one we will be happy to make the swap, im hoping to have my cruiser on the road/trail in a few months....but that has been the plan for about a year now. im missing one piece of the puzzle (custom t-case shaft) and it will be drivable. it's a major bummer to be this close to driving it and yet so...far away.
one way or another it will be done i have way too much time and money in this thing to bail on it.

Weston,

Why not just pull the front drive shaft and get it rolling? Come on man, after seeing it last week its been driving me nuts to see it so close and not rolling around town. Admittedly I want to take it for a hot lap or two :-P

Let us know how we can help, I'm sure a few of us who are local will donate time and wrenching to get it under its own power ASAP!

Thank's guys.
AMMO,
As of now (without the unicorn shaft) the only way my np205 has the rear offet out put is with the np205 parts which only yeild low rang.
the suspension still needs to be taken to S.O.R.D so it can be linked up.
if it was a matter of labor or wreching it would have been done a long time ago. my only option as of now is to wait for the unicorn shaft or ditch the trans and t case for a nv4500 and split case which will cost me another 3-5k depending on how long i wait to find a good deal.
it will be done this year one way or another!
i have the blue print for the shaft (well the shop has it) so... if they keep screwn the pooch i will take the print to another machine shop.

I stoped by the machine shop the other day, the owner said he ordered some material. if he wasn't bs'n me i would say it's gettn close.
im pretty sure my axles need some love im thinking about buying some axles that have allready been rebuilt. rather than re-build mine. mainly because idk what ive got in mine other than 260k on them. ive seen some complete rebuilt axles for about the parts cost to rebuild.

You mentioned that the swap with the 700R4 smoked the 3rd gear. How built up was the tranny? I'm just wandering. Thank you.

hey....havn't been on here in a while.
fresh rebuild to stock specs. it made it feel like it was under powerd, do to the shift points. a 5 speed is a better option.
4l80e with programable shift points is the only auto id do if i were to do it again.
