Hi, I know that the 3F engine is unstoppable, but the last owner change swap the engine to a 3B..... this one is also unstoppable, but the best terrain are the mud and rocks.

Thanks to all for the cometaries.

More upgrades soon

Nice flex pics! It flexs very well. Does yours have Trail Gear leaves? I didnt know they made them for our cruisers. How do you find the shackle reversal? And how do you find the welded rear locker on the road?

They have past de winter time here en Chile and now we are in spring.... and that is sinonimous of make good trails.

Here some pics:

No, I' have stock leaves yet. I´m evaluating a OMU Dakar leaves, because here in Chile have a high cost.

With the shackle reversal, the only problem that I have is with the right wheel, that touch a little bit the fender when has a extreme flex.

The welded rear locker is temporaly until comes the definitve rear ARB Air Locker (I hope for end of this year). It works fine in soft and extreme off raod. But in on road you must have extreme warning when you have to turn right or left, for the rest, fine.

You must understand, that is a provisional and cheaper solution

Is that an OEM snorkel, cause it looks kind of weird....

A new modification over the transfer....

This is the new patern that I've got :)

It works fine and give some more control for off road

gasser vs diesel.

having driven both gasser and diesel extensively i can safely say both Toyota engines are great off road.
hp and torque:
F 130 hp / 3600 rpm 30.0 kgm/2200 rpm
2F 140 hp / 3600 rpm 30.0 kgm/1800 rpm
3F 155 hp / 4200 rpm 30.0 kgm/2200 rpm
3FE 155 hp / 4200 rpm 29.5 kgm/2600 rpm

3B 98 hp / 3500 rpm 23.0 kgm/2200 rpm
13BT 120 hp/3400 rpm 29.0 kgm/2200 rpm
2H 115 hp / 3500 rpm 25.5 kgm/2200 rpm
12HT 135 hp /3400 rpm 32.0 kgm/2000 rpm
1HZ 135 hp /3600 rpm 28.2 kgm/2000 rpm
1PZ 115 hp /4000 rpm 23.5 kgm/2600 rpm
HDT 165 hp / 3600 rpm 37.0 kgm/2000 rpm
when you compare the 2 the gasser and the diesel still produce their max torque at nearly the same rpm range. the old gassers max HP and the older diesels max HP are at the same basic rpms.

a properly set up gasser 6 can lug down to 400 RPM and not stall out just like a diesel
a properly set up gasser 6 can cross deep water the same as a diesel
a properly set up NA gasser can rev quicker than a NA diesel

the BIG difference is the cost of repairs, to rebuild a F/2F/3F is cheap, the cost to rebuild a diesel is not, even if you do it yourself.
the only difference on and off the road between the 2 is the cost of fuel.

me? i drive what ever is under the hood. you look at the price of fuel these days and diesel is still sitting at 20% more than gas. so if a gasser is getting 14 mpg and a diesel is getting 25 mpg, it is still cheaper to run the diesel but you have to add to the equation, repairs and original investment (diesel LC cost more to buy, in some cases much more).

i would love to try out a gasser 70 someday, all we have here is diesel.

great ride Roland, i love it.

I love the inward facing seats on your truck. Now all it needs is a wonderful bench seat and it'd have the perfect short wheelbase seating arrangement. :D Plus I love how the shorties look with a good lift and big tires. What wheel/tire combo are you running right now?

As for the gasser vs. diesel argument, I agree with Wayne. I drive anything that's under the hood, but I personally like diesel just because I like diesel, although I'd never do a conversion because I'd rather keep the running gear of a truck as stock as possible and rather would buy a truck that came factory with a diesel.

Roland,
for years i have done a similar modification but mine was a 'C' pattern where yours is a 'U' pattern, both work.

this mod is great when you want to sling mud onto the truck behind you...

i like the welded rear, many have the misconception that a welded in the back makes for an unsafe road unit. not true. even in snow and ice the welded behaves but then we have on the fly 4wd so in those situations why not use what Toyota gave us?
the only downsides that i found over the decades was tire wear and chirp chirp chirp as i turned into a parking stall.
on the highway 160k/h felt as safe or safer than an open diff.
i tried a welded in the front for one run only, BRUTAL for steering.
congrates again on a sweet ride.
