Finishing up my fj60 steering conversion and haven’t found much info on setting up drag link pitman arm. Wondering if I have to change the drag link or if I can find a longer tie rod? Are people using fj60 drag link/tie rods? What are most doing to get the pitman inline with the drag link? Also mounting for stabilizer. Any pics would help.

Thanks

This may or may not apply to your setup, they’re all a little different. For my set up I have an fj80 box and mini truck steering arms/knuckles. For rod ends I have fj60 everywhere, but pitarm I used an fj80 end. For the link I had DOM tube cut to length and tapped for the each corresponding rod end. This was logical route for me, I’m super happy wit it. As a bonus, if I wanted a steering stabilizer, the fj60 end has a place to mount one and the frame has the other mount. I’d just have to measure. So far I haven’t felt a need.

I think the pic above is all 70 series goodies

I believe you can get these from Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters

Specter has them but the full kit for $$. I’ll check cruiser outfitters

If you send the ends you are going to use and an eye to eye measurement, I believe Marlin will make you a custom DOM rod, with jamb nuts, for under $100.

Did you end up cutting your worm gear on your early box?

I cut the steering rod from the old box. If you want the box you can have it.

Is this right hand drive? Can’t find stateside
Yes it is, for J7 series like said.

It comes with the left side end, you have to buy right side also. The cone is a little bit (1 mm) too big for the J4 tie rod end, so it have to drill a bit larger. Or you can change the tie rod with ends too and the steering arms from J7 or J6 series.

I have used Monroe SC2915 steering stabilizer, it fits without any other modifications.

I’m assuming if yours is right hand drive I’d need left hand? I can get a full kit locally hard to find individually. I’ll check toyotapartsdeal. Thanks

4plus has weld in inserts for the drag link. On my to purchase list.

No, that is for left hand (LHD) like yours.

Just an FYI.....I just contacted Marlin about their custom rods......and they said they no longer do that, but you can check out the kits they have available.

I got mine through front range off-road. I believe they were 75 each.

I made a hybrid drag link using a spare tie rod and the original part. Hard to see in this picture but there is 5.25 inches of the original drag link fused to 19 inches of 40 series tie rod. Tie rod threads match the 60 series end. I don't trust my welds so I had it professionally welded and it is very strong.
