thanks!

fj40 front marker/turn lights

I ordered those from CCOT, the only thing out of many orders I wasn't happy with. But in their defense I did order the cheapy knockoffs and not their better versions. If you do go there get the better ones.

Looking for FJ60 5spd and t-case...

a little education on 4sps.
1973+ to 1980 have a 16 spline output shaft that wears commonly where the drive gear (aka input gear) for t-case sits to the point to which it must be replaced. A $250 part new (the output is a "main shaft"), plus bearings, plus synchros, PLUS LABOR, etc. IF a 4sp of that vintage has a worn output shaft run away from it. You also cannot determine this unless the t-case has been split off. Combo units don't tell the story. Used 4sps cost under $150 fom most private parties. You will also need:
-bellhousing
-4sp t-case shifter system
-if you use your 3sp t-case, you will need a spacer or rare PTO gear, Datsun B210 rear axle bearing (see tech tips Ih8mud), transistional input gear ($75 new many vendors)
-...and ideally you should switch to 4sp flywheel and diaphragm clutch (3sps are 3 finger style).

1981-1985 (March '85) SHORT split case 4sps have a better 19 spline output and do not suffer the same wear as earlier 4sps. As pointed out, US models do not have the parking brake drum system. Those parts can be found at a number of Vendors (I sold them for $375 all new parts) and I believe robert at Liquid Offroad honors that price as well. In regular applications (FJ40's 1981+, FJ60's, J70's etc) they use a cradle mount under the tranny and DO NOT USE A BELLHOUSING MOUNT). The can hang on the 1973+-1980 bellhousings set up for 4sps.

May 1985+ and All H55 factory 5sps are LONG trannys. They use the split case (same non parking drum system in US) and it is my believe that if used without a belly mount you may have issues as the weight of the transfer case is 4" back of the SHORT position- making a 18 5/8" driveline in rear with f/2F application (I am worried about the 'moment' on the clutch, bellhousing etc).

H55 5sps. Must use a 1983+ transfer case (for all intensive purposes). They NEVER WERE AVAILABLE NEW IN US TRUCKS. Used H55 trannys if they must be rebuilt can be expensive- almost as much as a new one with TLCA discount (approx $1,800)- you have been warned. I would only buy a new one only.

I hope this helps

(subnote: current topic on pirate4x4 speaks of H41 vs H42 and early H41. All the US trannys are H42 with 3.55:1 first gear. early H41's are beyond rare with 10 spline output shafts and 5.29 (5.3):1 first. 1972/3-1980 H41's have 4.9:1 first, 1981+ H41's have 4.8:1 first (same gear as H55) AND all are SHORT)

tags and titles

I'd reaaaallllly have to agree with Woody and Dan. I am 99% certain it is a federal offense to move tags around. I would work quietly on this subject...

Looking for FJ60 5spd and t-case...

Doing 50mph in my new 72 FJ w/31's to it's new home with a major tranny whine is no fun.

I am waiting to see If I can find everything I need locally...

My goal is to run 33's, and a 4spd w/1F would probably be better then simply replacing 3spd.

Great Site...Thanks everyone for the valuable info,

looking for FJ40 hood items...

My 72 FJ hood is missing the following:
center trim piece.
all hardware that mounts on TOP of the hood to secure the front windshield.

Thanks,

Re:tags and titles

I am sure now that you have found out it is probably illegal, you have no intention of doing this. You might want to buy a wreck with a clean title and use your vehicle parts to rebuild it.

i've got one with the shifter here in Utah. No idea what it is worth.

looking for FJ40 hood items...

when was your 72 made?

mine was 3/72 and i don't have a split hood.
i thought that this was maybe a different hood (as in, not from my 40), but a guy in my club has a 3/72 that also doesn't have the split hood, so i'm not sure.

we talked abt for a few minutes, b/c i was pretty sure that the split hood went thru 72, but oh well.

sorry bout the question, good luck findin a piece :D

I *think* I remember them having 3 versions before...they only have 2 now. I wonder if they got rid of the cheapy ones...as those are the ones I went back to get this week, but no dice. The other version they have is 59.00 each (I think also made in japan, but not OEM). Does the ones you have the 59.00 units?

Thanks!

Ignition wire from coil to dist.

I am in need of the ignition wire that connects the coil to the dist. cap. I take it off as sort of a crappy anti theft measure and now I lost the damn thing. ::) Parts stores only carry the whole wire set and I only need the one. I own a 65 FJ40 with the stock motor. I am located in Arcata, CA. Thanks a lot. :D
Oh, I think the wires are the same up to 72.

Re:looking for FJ40 hood items...

Ehsan Kiani is going to make some hood spears from steel. www.4x4labs.com is also making some from billet aluminum.

Re:I need one.....

My cruiser came with a factory chrome bezel. As a newbie I got caught up in all that LCML talk about how evil chrome was. So I traded it with another lister who sent me a slightly dented stock bezel. I even paid for my part of the shipping. Oh well, live and learn :(

91-97 FJ 80 coils

Ok guys, I live in east TN, so shipping is probably gonna bite me on this one, my zip is 37752.

As far as these coils go, I hear that they have to different lengths in the rear. Some people are telling me to get 2 sets or 2 short sides, and some are telling me to get a "packer" for the long side that should balance it out. Could anybody clear me up on this, or direct me somewhere that sells a packer?

Thanks

Shawn
