Removed the cap underneath the cargo area carpet, just a fuel sending unit. How do I get to the pickup... please don't say drop the tank.

set pressure to about 5 psi and slowly turn it up but don't go more than 10 and do NOT blow into it with the cap ON...

Want to check the screen/filter

there isn't one on the end of the tube, it is just an open tube. filter is on the frame rail by the distributor.

If it is plugged, you can run a stiff wire down it to make sure it's clear.

The parts diagram list this as being applicable to US FJ60 77023-22040 And it fits most Toyotas made in that period inc diesels, cars, trucks and buses.
Is it possible someone removed yours?

From my search, 4/86 to 8/87 only, earlier FJ60s didn't have this.

I don't know if the replacement tanks under the Toyota recall had this filter, I bet they did.

My search says they had it from.
08/1980-07/1987 FJ60LG-KA USA, WGG, 2F, MTM, 4F
09/1986-07/1987 FJ60LV-KA USA, WGV, 2F, MTM, 4F

Mine isn't clogged I wanted to see if there was anything in it. Heard 60s have gas tank problems

I doubt looking inside will tell you much. There is a recall on fuel tanks. Under extreme pressure they could possibly leak at the seams. Toyota can look up your VIN and tell you if the tank was changed over.
Owners were still getting them changed free as of July 2016 but some Toyota dealers and Toyota depts were becoming a bit reluctant because the 60 series is 30 years old.

there is a website you can check to see if any recalls are still applicable to you VIN

I just pulled and re installed my tank, not a lot of fun but not real bad. Folks above are correct, there isn't a screen it's just a supply and return tube running into the tank, it's at the top p/s of the tank.

Just got mine back from the shop after being resealed. Guy said there wasn’t a sock on it so he put one on. Fairly certain after reading this and other threads that there was never a sock on the fuel pick up lines. Am i wrong on this?

i just bought one and it did have a sock on it. i have a 60 series tank in my 62 for my diesel conversion. i was having troubles with fueling at 1/4 tank or less and decided to swap the pickup. both had screens on them but i think the one in the tank was bent and not picking up the bottom fuel in the tank. new one fixed my problem but yes both had socks. i think the early 60s maybe didn’t have them but don’t know the year

Just looking in the parts diagrams, it seems that just about every Toyota in the world made in the 1980s had a " filter, suction tube" #77023-22040. Except North American FJ60s.
The Canadian diesel 60 and 70 series had them.
This part should fit onto your FJ60 as long the suction tube has a right angle bend on the end
