fj60 engine swap into fj40 (3 Viewers)

I just picked up a FJ60 motor and tranny, gearbox etc with 80,000 miles on it. I have been working on a .5 engone to swap out but stumbled across this. It looks like I can just swap it but there are some differences. I wa wondering if I could just splt the engine from the tranny etc and swap out the engone mounts and it looks like it would fit. Is this correct or do I have to do more modifications?

Also I am torn on the .5 and the 2F I just got. The .5 only has 60,000 miles on it and I wonder if I should just keep it and put that in or put in te 2F? Thoughts?

sorry, it is a 1.5F - all i want to do is swap out the blown 2f engine with one that runs so I can putz around in. This 2F I just got has alot of accessories (power sterring, etc.,) I would strip down engine to bare bones and then install.

I was thinking about just selling the 2F as is, but this engone looks really good and has low miles. I see that these engone mounts are flat will the older ones just bolt on if I removed these? Just alot of unknowns with this but it was a deal I could not pass up.

The 60 engine is the way to go. Better ignition, hp and oiling. Swap your 40 bellhousing/tranny and transfer onto the later 2F and drop it into the truck. Youll be able to run your existing carb/intake and exhaust if its in decent shape and ditch the 60 vac hose spaghetti.

Watch your clearance between the fan and the radiator but that can be fixed relatively easily. While the engine is out, youll want to fix the "galley plug" on the 60 head but that will take 10 minutes out of the truck.

Over the 74ish F, displacement. 3.9L to 4.2L gives approximately 10 more hp.

I misunderstood what you were saying. I know the 2F is superior to both the F and the 1.5F. I thought you were saying that a 2F out of a 60 had more HP than a 2F out of a 75 or later 40. I have run all three engines, and currently have a 1.5F in my 74 piggy.

The original poster blew the 2F in his 40 awhile back and was going to put the F in until he could find a decent 2F

Can you keep the fj60 fuel injected and swap the wire harness?
