Very cool! I'm following along with keen interest. You're still making it look easy.

Cheers!

It's luck! Seriously....

I got the chassis under the body, no wheels. No way that was going to happen even with no coils in it. Just don't have enough crap laying around to build a bigger pyramid! So I pulled the wheels and set it on my wheel carts, slide it under and then stuffed the Slee coils in it. Without even trying on an uneven shop floor I am already only off left to right by 2/10s of a degree! Stoked on that...

How proud do you think it will sit with the slee 4" and 35s? I'm on the fence about ordering a J-lift or the slee for mine but I just don't know if the J-lift will support the weight of the armor. Plus I want to keep my 37s without having to hack up the body too much...

I got to say, when it comes to layout and setup on this swap there is one major defining factor. That is as pictured below. The rear wheel well pretty much determines everything and the rest is setup from there. Unless you are going to cut the body which I am not. The pinch weld or seam here is not going to change and so I started layout here and am squaring up the rest of it from this location.

I can't really say, I am not there yet. Better question for Frank, he is on Slee coils. He has a 1" spacer in the rear and is fairly heavy. So ya good question for him. His truck looks about right to me from the pics I have seen and he is run I g 35's. I don't see any issues really in fitting 37s but again I am not there yet to comment much.

After a lot of playing with set up I finally got it where I was happy how things are sitting. I went ahead and raised the body 1/2-3/4" from what is pictured above. My only reasons being; it was easiest for set up, it gives lot's more room for exhaust and makes things like installing rear shocks much easier. In the end it may also not need any spacers in the coil springs since I have added a small lift int the body mounts. All in all after much time spent on layout it is square, level and ready to build mounts. I already have the first set of mounts done and by the end of today I plan to have the truck sitting on wheels. I will need to pull out the chassis one time only to final weld up my body mounts and a few other things at the back of the frame.

looks real good, well done!!! So that seam in the rear wheel well is hanging above the frame?
Is the 8 frame wider than the 6 frame at this point?

Thank you! Yes you are correct, rear wheel well and yes the 80 frame is wider here. The body must sit above the frame rail.

I just plasma'ed out the second set of body mounts, letting them cool before clean up on them. And yes I am using CAD to build these! ;)

I am standing here after a 12 or so hour day in the shop just drinking a beer and staring at the new creation. So here is a few more pics!

Pretty friggin stoked!

Dude, looks awesome. The SLEE 4" look perfect for a set of fat 37s.. What size tank are you wanting to squeeze under there?

Wait...CAD? I thought you were using the same system I use - CSS?

You know - Cardboard, Sharpie and Scissors!

Looks very good, carry on.

I did a little more last night so here is a couple pics. I need to build front body mounts, extend the frame in the back and build the farthest back body mounts. Otherwise it is a done deal. I plan to get that plotted and fabb'ed up the the body still on it so I only have to pull the body one last time.

On a different subject, I have an LQ4 6L with 4L80e + Marks adaper + HF2A t-case located not far from me with zero miles on it. It is a good deal, I am thinking about buying it and slapping it in this truck. What ya think!?

Cheers

Ya it would take 37's I think no probs. There is tons of room in the back for a fuel tank, easily 40+ gallons. Looks like you could fab up a lock box too or mount a safe right where the old fuel tank access hole is at.

Damn looks real good dude. So how high is the lift overall? Equivalent to SOA? Slightly lower?

Here is the thing, they are coil springs with no shocks right now. Only weight on it is the body and frame which really is not much. It is tall, real tall, the sill is 30" off the shop floor. It looks like a SoA 60 on 37s standing next to it. However, the coils are going to go way down, like probably 6-8". I am 165lbs and sitting on the tailgate it drops 2-3"! What is nice about coil springs is they are very easy to play with compared to say leaf springs. It it needs an extra inch in the rear just slap in a 1" spacer. If it is to tall overall, drop it down with an OME 2.5" lift, if a guy wanted it much much lower, fit stock coil springs. MetalTech makes spacers as well so there are a lot of combinations a guy can play with including air bags. I like coils a lot better than leaf springs for these reasons and a few others. ;)

It is currently about 3" outside the rear wheel wells with the tires. With a different tire & wheel combo you could easily shave 1-2" per side. Or leave it nice and wide and get some big flares or do some trick bar work that incorporates flares into them.

I can tell ya this, it is super friggin' cool and super sweet looking. It is so good I am really temped to try and finish the rest of the truck off in the next 4 months so I can keep this truck. If I don't, I already know I will always be thinking about that super badass 62-80 mash up I never finished or enjoyed. I already know right now I will never do or have another one of these and it truly is a dream Land Cruiser!

Just for reference, here is a 62-80 mash up TLC did that looks to be on OME 2.5" lift and has skinnier tires and wheels.

Last bit to add, if you go back to page 5 you can see pics of Franks truck on an OME lift and also he talks about how he has stink bug built into his truck. I did mine a little different . I raised mine about 1/2" from what his is, I am also about 1/2" farther back on the frame than he is. In addition I didn't really build any stink bug into the body mounts. I almost did but decided I would rather be able to adjust any issues in this department by simply tuning the coil springs. I have played with 80's coils a lot and have all kinds of things laying around to try on it from OME spacers to MT spacers to stock springs. I just don't have any OME springs. I would like to see it sitting at 1* or less from level once a power train is in it but things will also change as a guy builds up the truck. A big fuel tank, rear bumper, ect ect may drop the rear a lot. In my 80 once built out and weighted down it was 1* or less from level but this is a different beast. Up front there is tons of room between the frame rails and the body, real nice for routing exhaust which can be a challenge in a 60-62 or 80 with a v8 in it. A guy could also easily shim the body mounts as he wanted to get the desired front to rear stance, some big washer is all that will take. So really it is pretty tuneable to get it just how a person wanted.

I am just happy I nailed it as far as level side to side, square and centered. It is on the money in this department which took me 2 days of playing with it to get it there and ready to build mounts.

Cheers

Ok yeah that was the main question is would a standard lift to the 80 frame end up making like an SOA or could you keep it like a stock-ish 60 with something like a 2.5" lift but with the added comfort and adjustability of the 80 coilover and frame. Way outside my league of things to even attempt but would be super sweet..

Oh and definitely go for the 6L, cant miss with that combo.
