I live in westport mass but we also have a place in grantham,nh. It’s a solid truck. I’m happy with my end of the deal and I would think my trade partner was happy also. He proposed the trade. We both looked at each other’s rigs and made the deal. I don’t think it’s the original color, but I like where it’s at and the patina it has. It is amazingly rust free. I’m learning a ton about these every day, and chipping away at the issues. It was way ahead of its time,in my opinion. I will say that my trade partner probably over stated the electrical issues. I solved that pretty quickly with basic attention. It drives and shifts well. It definitely needed front end attention and wheel cylinders. Braking was an issue. Overall, very solid. The 40 I traded had an aqualu tub. Just not enough room for me and the fam. And dog (probably more dogs coming. ).Like it. That's the 1 I was interested in. It'll be fun
. What's your local?
Thanks. I’ll get more pics up soon. Thanks for the info on the gear. I had to fix some door mechanisms also Had to make those parts from other ones that were close that I found. These rigs are a challenge but I really like it. My kids also love it. That was the main reason for the deal on my end. Now we can all roll together.Welcome, she's a looker for sure and the right colors!I see you're up in BobM's neck of the woods. Check Spector Off Road for the window gear.
Traded my 1969 40 for a 1969 55. Wanted something a little more family friendly. Have two kids and a dog. I traded with another mud member. Overall happy with the deal. Straight up trade. 55 is in good shape. Usual issues. Rear window which I’m addressing, carburetor, center arm and steering and a small amount of rust. The truck lived it’s life in Texas which seemed to just dry everything out and make it dusty. Many of the lights didn’t work which I addressed by cleaning up the contacts to the fuse box and making sure everything was appropriately wired and fused.
The rear window is the gear for sure. The 55 is a very interesting rig. I kind of feel like it’s the original SUV. I now have it registered, titled and on the road.
We were close geographically so that worked out.

Thanks! Oh yeah many more pics to come.Wow! Congrats @tancruiserjr ! We're gonna need to see more pics of this thing!
Well so it finally happened, a pig followed me home...no rust, perfect patina. I just couldn't resist! It spent it's life in OR on a ranch running the boat up to the lake and has been sitting in the barn since 1992. All original with the exception of an unknown v8 conversion.
Owners Name: Devon Barker
Year: 1969
Insta: @wilburthelandscruiser
State FJ-55 resides: Previously a barn in OR, now CO
Any Modifications: None by me (yet)! PO: Unknown small-block v8 conversion, dope secondary oil filter from the 70's that definitely came from a late night TV ad, killer Oregon hornets in every nook and cranny, one old bottle of half used penzoil, original plates showing last registered in 1992, and 4 non-matching tires.
In know absolutely nothing about pigs so will be lurking around here frequently this winter!
It's pretty much completely stock but my immediate list:
- Start build thread so you can all laugh at my suffering
- Get rid of the v8
- Brakes
- Clutch
- Change out existing tires
- Scrape out 50yrs of ranch dirt from the floor
- New or alternative headliner (tell me about the unobtanium rear cargo window seals?)
- Refurb interior/dash
- Rear window lower wiper (don't have one, need one to keep the rain out)
- Patina preservation!
