Recieved my Fog brackets a light switch from MOT. Decided to throw the switch in to see how it looks.

I am pleased with the look.

Well bringing this back up from the dead as I have a monthly meeting this weekend and have promised myself the Pig would be there. So I have a lot to do before. I walk by it every day wishing I could work on it only to go and work on this gay motor in the garage. But it will soon be done and I can get back to working on the pig. Looking forward to it.

Need to get fenders back on and rebuild the smog pump.

I forgot to mention I did picked up a PTO for this pig. Needs some work but came with everything I needed. Should look sweet on the front of the pig.

Got some free time last night and put the smog pump back together. Wohoo. She will be running again tonight.


Now it's on to get the exhaust replaced. Then I'm gonna start painting. Having never painted before it ought to be an experience.

She's back. Running great. Didn't even need to choke her. Fired right up. Gonna take her tomorrow to get a new exhaust.

Real close to being road ready and ready for paint.

I have no idea what I'm doing. But I'm doing it anyway. So far so good.

I learned if you read the can it will tell you what to do. It doesn't dry as fast as I thought it would. WHich means dust will get on it if you are not careful. I wasn't but it is just primer and I'm planning on skimming it with bondo. The backs have already been coated with Rust Bullets Black Shell.

Question.

I have a set of mint fenders. The brace is preventing me from getting to the area behind it where rust generally starts. What have others done to protect these area? I was thinking of cutting the spot welds out, yank, treat and install with some body adhesive. Thoughts?

One more question. How in the hell do you pour out of a gallon can without spilling the crap everywhere?

If there is any sort of access at all, brownbear has been pushing this stuff I noticed LPS 3 He's also been pushing is structural epoxy. I haven't used the stuff yet, but I'm going tomorrow to pick some up. I'll let you know how it goes.

I stole a measuring cup from the that I use to dip POR15 w/o pouring it all over the garage floor.

I can't picture the spot you are talking about on your fenders...

No access. Just 5 1/4 inch holes. No way I can get in there.

I thought of using a holesaw and drilling a hole at the top and bottom and then just use a body plug when I'm done.

I'll take some pics tonight.

I borrowed this pic.

You can see it in the bottom left. It goes from the bottom of the fender to the top. Dirt gets behind it and it starts rusting. This thing is the main reason pig fenders rust so badly.

One more question. How in the hell do you pour out of a gallon can without spilling the crap everywhere?

Marshall, I don't know if a auto paint gallon is the same size as a home paint gallon, but if so, get one of these from Lowe's. Like $3 and works great. Been using it for pouring out trim paint and no spills, no paint on the can, and is resealable.

BTW, Piggie's coming along nicely. Hope to see it Sat.

Hehe! That's what I tell myself everytime I pick up a wrench or do anything electrical related. About that fender channel, some of the spot welds were broken on both mine & I was able to work loose or rotary tool w/ thin disk the others in order to get back in there & clean/ repaint. I'd go with drilling more holesaw holes - see what I did on my underbody channel, same idea as you have..... Loooooking goooood..... I wanna see you fix that parts tailgate you got from me... just for fun... ;p

Marshall - I'll tell 'ya like it is..... I haven't been physically workin on it for a month or so only planning upcoming mods in my head I have been buying some upgrade parts (steering & brake related). I'll post up my new stuff "soon" sorry cant be more specific. Both rigs are down right now & I won't make GSMTR this year. Lookin forward to having the 40 on the road by the late summer or fall cuz I really wanna do the Southern Cruiser Crawl. Happy ing! ;p

Laguna80 mentioned a product called LPS-3, I've been using it for years, and so has the aircraft industry (among others). Boeing used to use it to completely coat the insides of their fuselages, so condensation that accumulates thru the years of passengers breathing and spilling things does not sit and corrode the structure.

It's a spray on, aerosol or pump (I buy it by the gallon), and it smells nice. I use it inside all the doors of my old trucks, and inside the tailgate of my Pig, and also inside the rockers in the cargo area. If you scrape the crud out, wire-brush everything you can, compressed-air as much crap out as you can, then you can spray this stuff all over the nooks and crannies, and it will seal and shed all water away for years at an application. Good stuff, in my opinion it beats dismantling welded structure just to get in there and prevent corrosion, why not spray it in, and forget it?

BriderX2 ............had experience with this stuff years ago and it is very very good, thank you for mentioning something that I had forgotten about; only problem; it has to be reapplied about every couple of years or so BUT hey how about making it part of a routine maintanence like the aviaton guys do with their 25 hour, 100 hour inspectionsbeats the hell out of sheetmetal replacement

Put the new fenders on yesterday and took the girl out for her first club meeting. Good to have her out. She was the hit of the party. People were amazed and some had never seen one in person. They all got a kick out of the tailgate window. Thought about it last night. 55's are the only cruiser with a motorized roll up tailgate window.

I have noticed though there is an issue with the motor. That or I'm just anal with how a 2f should sound. There is a whine in the engine. COuld be a bearing going south. BUt with 72k on the engine I find this hard to believe. Could be the pilot bearing. Considering this motor sat for 23 years before ever being cranked I'm not surprised at some other issue. But I'm gonna run it. I think a few hundred miles will give me a better idea of what's up. If it dies I'll just yank it and rebuild it. One thing I can say is after building the Big Gay 2f is I can rebuild a 2f.

Now on to paint and to the exhaust shop because I suck at building a good looking exhaust system.

I also noted that these fenders are from a newer 55 while they fit not all the holes match up and there is a slight difference in the look. Nothing I think anyone would notice.
