After an extensive review pics of FJ45s on this site and elsewhere, it seems that roughly 80+ percent of all FJ45s have no rear reflectors, not even the "reflective" 4x4 oval on the tailgate. Seems dangerous to me. Am I missing something?

I'm not sure it's that big a deal:meh:

during daylight hours, visibility of the truck should be pretty obvious.

after daylight hours, driver should have taillights in operation.

generally reflectors are seen on sides of vehicles without running lights.

I believe rear red reflectors are and have been federal law since before the first LC was imported. I think I read somewhere that Toyota had to add certain reflectors to all vehicles prior to importation and/or sale in US. The importer or dealer may have added. So since reflectors were not "Factory" and therefore no "standard"...maybe we're just all overlooking them.

Sure would help when parked on street at night.

most shorty 45's had some weird aftermarket reflector bolted to the rear corners of the beds. didn't see anything like that on the lwb tho. heck mine didn't even come with seatbelts tho so why is a reflector a concern yet.

FJ45 LPB's did come with reflectors

the location of them was less than ideal and they generally got smashed early on. ones that made it rotted out.

it is AO part in the illustration. in the parts book it is listed as a "USA ONLY OPTION"

the AO part is for the mounting plate only. the reflector itself was probably the same dealers installed on the bodies of the early 40's

My LWB 45 still has the brackets. No reflectors. But they are hidden by the after market bumper. Aftermarket bumpers were very popular and one of the main reason not many original reflectors survived. 67 was the last year the 45s were imported to the US. The reflectors that were mounted by the tail lights came after 67.

that's the reflector.. Same one bolted on the side of the swb trucks as well.. Looked like something off a semi truck.. Junk put on by a monkey at the dock probably.
