Hey everyone, it was great seeing all of you tonight. So here is the break down of what I am hoping to get done to my 40 before I'm off to UNM on August 22. I need to get my 2.5" OME lift in so I have good suspension. Also I need to rebuild my axles. And finally get my steering issue taken care of by using a FJ60 steering box and figuring out what I need to do about my tie-end rods.

Date: August 1st and 2nd start as soon as we can.

Lunch and drinks will be taken care of.

OME
Deluxe 2.5" Lift should arrive on Monday

Axles
Will talk to CDan at American this next week about what I need.

Steering
FJ60 PS Unit being sent out this next week to West Texas Off Road for rebuild

List up any parts you would recommend or ones that I need. I would like to do this once and do it right.

Should have just about every tool we need. Have Mig and arch welders, torch, plasma cutter, pnematic tools, hand tools, race jack, and four jack stands.

Thanks much!

Date Change

I changed the date to the first and second of August so it doesn't interfere with the planned run.

I'll give you a hand if avail. Do you have a way to hook up multiple pneumatic hoses to your air comp? That will speed things up a bit. I'll bring my own hose and impacts. Just a thought.

I'm not familiar with older stuff but can I assume that liberal amount of Kroil or PB Blaster will be applied to ALL hardware?

As long as spare hardware is avail (might be some breakage during removal) you should be good to go. After watching Robbie, it seems like Sawzall and leaf spring work sorta goes hand in hand!

What part of town do you reside? I didn't see a parts washer on the list but I assume you got one?

Those steering knuckles can really be a mess. Most of your time could be taken up just getting them clean. One suggestion. Take the LC to the car wash, drop in a bunch of quarters, and pressure wash off the junk. The cleaner they are when you start the easier the job will be. Not all car washes are the same, so look for one with a lot of pressure. The place on Coors, south of I-40, next to the Checker, is good. Make sure to wash them front and back, top and bottom.

For the springs I would make sure you have new spring pins. As suggested, you might need to cut a few off. Get the greasable kind.

Those should be already included with the deluxe kit (that is what I put on mine, but 4") Like they said, start spraying everything. I sprayed everything for about three weeks every other day but some were still a PITA to get off. If you rebuild the axles, quite a few here on Mud swear by using the Marlin inner seals. Of course I won't get the joy to drive enough to find out how long they last. I can't that far into the future, but I could possibly help. Like Ash asked, what part of town do you live in?

Ditto on the Marlin inner axle seals, they're indeed the Bombdiggidy!

Ditto x 10000 on high pressure washing the undercarriage and the work areas and then soaking the crap out of everything with penetrating oil.

I'll agree with the Marlin HD inner axle seals. Otherwise I'd go with the Toyota knuckle bits.

1) If the OME is here now, I'm sure that could be done earlier than the rest to save a little time. That's about an afternoon job. With new suspension on, it'll all come back apart real quick and easy when you go to do the PS conversion and axle rebuild.

2)Have you figured out how you're tying the 60 series PS box to the axle? 4x4 Labs, custom relay rod, something else?

3)F-250 shock towers? Got one or two on hand?

The pressure washing might not be a bad idea. If you want a REAL high pressure wash, drop me a line. You are welcome to bring it up to our place--I've got a pressure washer that will take paint off (literally), or just clean things. After it's been washed, I'd get some more Kroil on all the bolts (or PB Blaster, if you don't have Kroil) to keep letting them soak.

I'm working that weekend, but there is a slight chance that I might be back in town on Sunday the 2nd, around noon--if I can drop some of my schedule. So I won't be around probably, but I'll be there afterwards, which also means if you need some help "batting cleanup" during the week I could help.

Their place is pretty much right by Albuquerque Academy.

i forgot about that. are the shock towers going to be in the way of the box mounting on the frame? if so, a search for Ford F-250 shocktowers here on mud should find the part #. they should be about $15 at the dealer.

I have been hitting everything with the PB Blaster and I will take it to a car wash and clean everything off really well.

I am meeting with Jon this afternoon and will find out if I need the F250 shock towers. I ended up getting a lot of room when my smog pump seized and I took it off. (It still passed emissions, so no worries.) Don't the towers allow for a better set up for my OME as well? If they do I might as well get them.

I am figuring out how I want to do my steering. And I will have all the parts in before we start.

FJ60 steering unit is getting sent out tomorrow so it can be rebuilt.

I got a parts list from CDan yesterday and he has just about everything in stock which is nice.

I should be able to run multiple lines off the compressor and if we need to we can set up one of the smaller compressors as well. I do not have a parts washer; it is on the need to purchase list.

I do live right next to the Albuquerque Academy and about 7 minutes away from American Toyota and CDan. So we can get parts if we need them on Saturday.

Paul, we will talk shock mount when you come out. To be honest, I have no idea how I'm going to solve this problem. I do have a few ideas. Yes, the stock shock tower needs to come off.

Does anybody have a F-250 tower handy, on or off the truck? I could use the width measurement at the base.

Okay I will pick up a set as well from the Ford dealership. Jon, I will give you a call early afternoon.

I *should* have one sitting at home. I can check when I get back.

4". they are the same as the ones on my F-350 with 2 bolt holes instead of 4. but the 4 hole ones are $50. identical otherwise. rip off!

Isn't the U Pull it yard a good source for these things for cheap?

i would think so!

I need to go down to the junkyards anyway to look at a 60 and 62 that are down at All Mini Trucks to see if a part will work on one of my projects.

Does anyone know what year the shock towers need to come off because U-Pull have 15 F250 starting at 1969-1997.

Bombdiggidy? That is a new word to me. I think I have extra Marlin and OEM seals you can have if you want them. I bought them for a '76 axle I put in the 40.

If you wouldn't mind letting those go that would be great, thanks! The 76 seals should fit in a 77. Can anyone confirm this though?
