I am being offered power steering parts from a “1978 FJ40” to add PS to my 78. This confused me. Thought I read that power steering was first offered on these Toyota’s in 1979. Is my understanding wrong?

Here are some pic's I received. Told this includes the gearbox holder frame bracket.40 parts buyers need to make sure they know what they are buying and not leave it up to the seller. Just because it was on a 78 doesn’t mean it’s from a 78. Grab some pics and post them and you’ll get some Mud feedback.
It could have a late 78 manufacture date and be a 79 model year.
79 model year did not start until 1/79. 75 didn't start until 1/75. Those two model years did not start in the previous year.
Thank you, very helpfulLooks like a PS box from my phone. IIRC the gearbox will drop right into your existing truck. The mini truck boxes require altering the mount because the angles are different. The 40ps boxes are hard to find and you will probably need to go through this one which means more money. Is your block tapped for the steering pump?
If your current build isn’t stock and won’t be a pristine resto, the DIY electric conversions look really cost effective for a street truck. There have been some articles about Prius steering assist that look relatively straight forward.
Got it, thanksIt could have a late 78 manufacture date and be a 79 model year.
That is incorrect. @Living in the Past is correct.Got it, thanks
