This is a friend of mines 40, he recently aquired som 80 axles and we're about to put them under there. It's a budget build so we're gonna try to leave the front leafs and run hydraulic steering to counter the crazy knuckles rather than link it.

Please feel free to speak up if anyone's figured out a good way to do the steering! I've searched on here and PBB and have gotten some really good ideas but I'm really witing till I get into the front to start trying to tackle that can o worms...

Rear's almost done! Have to build a trac bar and adjust the pinion angle a little.

that jackstand is very spooky. thats why i tokk that particular pic. there is about a 1/4" between the top of the stand and anything else. didint really do that until all was out from under it so we are being super careful while we put it back together so we can reposition the stands to a safer area. its also gonna get a new cage and chromo fronts sometime, but i am knee deep in a buggy project now so i dont have much time or monetary efforts to put into this now.

question for those in the know. i want to increase my wheelbase. i already have my springs flipped, but as you can see the giant fender hole i have in the rear will allow me to move my rear axle much farther back than flipped springs will allow. i want to flip the rear shackle hanger and use longer springs, ive been measureing every spring i come across lately. mini truck springs are about the same length as fj55 springs, which is still about 2" shorter than what i want, also havent found any with the center pin where i want. im looking to get about 6-8" more wheelbase in the rear. if anyone has any good ideas i need to know. otherwise im gonna have to run it like it is. this is a backburner project to my buggy so if it doesnt happen in the next 2 weeks so i can get it home its gonna have to stay like it is, then ill lose motivation and never got it done how i want.

i would love to link it ans maybe that will come one day, but i cant sink that kind of time and money into this right now.

Huh? Dude you were about halfway there to having a WAY better suspension setup. You already cut off the best part of those axles  IMO, 1 step forward - 2 steps back.

How long are you looking to be? Mine is 102 and dig it. XJ springs out back, can be made to 104 with no drama.

So ahh, how are you going to do the front end with leaves?

i was thinking the 100-106 range could be done easily. were tossed around the idea of using a single ended ram as a drak link and going full hydro, but we may have somthing totally different in the works. we are gonna play around with it and see what we come up with. it will be very exciteing if it works.

I am doing the same thing to my fj40 but I am going to 3 link the front and 4 link the back with the top links triangulated

Hope to see some front shots. I have FZJ80 axles that are going under my 40. Thinking of 4 linking the rear using 80 springs and 3 link the front. Looking for ideas.

I think I may have enough room to 4 link the front and triangulate the top links. we will see when I get to that stage.

Crap, I did exactly the same work on my FJ.
I took of all the old steering parts and built up a new system, made with Blazer K5 power steering and Wrangler wheel.
If you need any information about the work don't esitate to contact me!

Here there are some pics of the work:
