Good evening everyone. So I found a Land cruiser near me. The vin on the chassis says FJ2520306L and the engine block is stamped F120852. The seller is telling me that it is a 1981 40 series with a 2f engine. He has no title for it. Correct me if I am wrong but Vin starting FJ25 is pre 1960 and engine block starting with just "F" is an F engine. I cannot find information on FJ25 vin numbers or engine codes. Can anyone help?

Thanks

Vin states it’s a 1960 fj25.
Do you have a picture of it? And the engine is super easy to tell the difference between a 2f and 1f by looking at it. Valve cover is the easiest glance to say 2f 1f.

Are the rear wheel cutouts round?

A 1981 FJ40 would have the gas tank under the Cruiser, and a 2F in it. Interested to see what it is.

Parts rig. SA import with no title? Don’t know how Florida is but unless it’s cheap and going thru paperwork isn’t bad in Florida I wouldn’t touch it for anything other than parts. It’s a late model body 79 or newer. frame looks to be a 25 just from vin. But the steering center link would be a way to tell if it’s an early frame and also if it has the centered rear axle. If original but with everything I would doubt it

Thanks for the input. Appreciate it

Although woefully behind in updates you can get a good idea of where an FJ25 falls in production here. The engines were not installed in numerical order, but that block number is in the appropriate range for the frame number.

Judging by the photos I would bet that the only piece of that vehicle that is related to an FJ25 is the frame number itself (a few pictures from below would tell if it's a modified 25 frame) and the the VIN plate, if it is present. That engine number probably came from the VIN plate not off the block. Seller didn't lie, it's much closer to an '81 than '60.

Hope you gave that one a pass. Thanks for snagging the VIN, maybe I'll get it in the list someday.

I agree. I think someone cut the vin stamping from a 25 welded it to a 40 frame.

This is the # on the motor. How can I find out the year of the motor? I'm thinking that they through a newer body on an older restored chassis and motor.

Here is the # on the motor. Not sure where it falls on your list. I'm thinking that maybe they mounted a newer tub on the older FJ25 chassis and motor.

So that engine would have been used around 1959-60. Here is the plate from 2 of the Fj25’s I bought. Both were 60 models stamper in 1961.

I'm not a fan of where this headed, but ....are you taking these pictures or are they being supplied to you?

In your last post the pictures are absolutely correct for a 25, that is a 25 VIN plate and the frame and motor number indicate a 1960 production run FJ25. The picture of the block number corresponds to the VIN plate. However, the VIN plate pictures were absolutely taken while they were mounted to a FJ25 cowl, the screws, insulated line, and black firewall tell me that.........but that blue tub in the previous pictures is simply not an FJ25 tub. It's quite possible that current engine block is the 25 block, but if it is, it would have to be a 2F head on it. I've never had occasion to try that trick, but I suppose anything is possible.

Only way to determine if it is a FJ25 frame at this point is to see pics of the frame from below, especially the crossmember and suspension mounting points but honestly those have likely been molested too. In short, it's now a Frankencruiser.

I do like that it's only 4 production numbers off from my 25's though.
