ok, had some progress on this today. I talked to Atlas which is a canvas shop in New Haven, CT. He gave me an estimate of at least $1000-$1500 a top and he will need a truck to fit it to. He is also maxed out until mid July. I also have another email into Beachwood to get an updated price from them. I sent them pics also.

Also, is there a big difference between FJ25 and FJ40 soft-top bows??

I thought that early soft top 40's (FJ25-CJ5 style door openings) the B-hoop is narrower than a hard top 40/25. I compared the hoop/tub measurements between CruiserKen's soft top troop carrier and my '63 soft top 40 and the rear hoop looked like it would fit, but the middle hoop was definitely different.

The rear bow on the 25 is the same size as the 40. The front bow is different, on the 40 it goes into the door post socket, on the 25 it comes inside the rail and is mounted on a bracket.

Steve's 25 hardtop is basically the same as a later 40 tub.

Correct. Matter of fact, that's exactly why a later model 40's aftermarket soft-top (Kayline) fit perfectly on my HT 25.

That being the case, I've been looking for a later 40's OEM style soft-top and bow configuration.

Alright, since I'm the outcast with the A bows, I'm going to temporarily convert my truck to B bows so I can drop off my truck to get going on canvas. Anyone have the contact info on that shop in VT that was talked about in some other thread?

EDIT: New Life Resources Canvas Shop in VT sound familiar?

EDIT: DOH! They say they're booked

EDIT: THEY'RE CLOSING SHOP!!! THATS NOT GOOD!!!

$1000 US for one top. :).. Thats a lot. If I had one set of a pillars here in Pakistan, I could do the tops and bows in around US$700 (same as the later 40s).

Mike, we'll put the two side by side to get them to match up. Do you have the location for the rear brackets, it'll make a big diffference at the top of the bow.

yep, upper rear brackets are welded to the stock location. Rear hoop fits in them nicely. I have the project tub to get the location of the lower brackets. They're drying right now, fresh outta the blaster. I'll drill tomorrow. I need the length of the bars that go between the front and rear hoop and the location of the mid hoop on the bars

Just in case someone else is following along at home, making bows. ;)

Does Eshan sell FJ40 bows separately from the canvas tops?
Yes we do... I wish I had a 25 tub here on which we could reproduce the top.. Can someone post pics of the A post... These look very different from the 40 series..
