I have that four wheeler issue, that couple must have ended up with the last fj45,because toyota of south africa put one last fj45 together for them, and sold it to someone else,so the couple begged the dealer to put together one LAST fj45 and barely found enough parts to do so,and it was complete with the late style bed and headache rack.If I can locate the issue in my vast collection I might be able to scan it and send it to someone here to post.It is a great read...

That's right, forgot about that part of the story.

I found my copy, but no scanner, it's the April 1988 issue, it's listed as a 1986 Toyota FJ45.

can anybody give me more info on a hj 45 chassis from australia listening to HJ47 - 307712
the only things i know is rhd and date 1984.
I want my serial numbers exchanged but do not have the paperwork of this chassis.
do not have any more info then the chassis#.

Hello Missil,

If I understand you correctly, you want to put your 2F into this chassis. That will not be a problem, as the H and F engines use the same mounts: the B series is the only anomaly for the 40 series.

Changing from RHD chassis to LHD to suit your firetruck will not be too hard, given you have the donor truck. You will find that most of the holes are pre-drilled in the frame. You will grind the rivets out of your steering box mounts from both frames, and mount the LHD mount to your Aussie frame. Then you will have to install nutserts to hold the bell crank to the front of the frame. You will find that the holes in the cross brace exist for the LHD bell crank; they simply don't have nuts welded to the inside.

Finally, you will either have to cut the inside box from the front frame rail out of the LHD or fabricate a similar item to hold the side of the bell crank which faces the frame horn. This part does not exist on the RHD version. I don't think that will be very hard to accomplish.

As for the month of production: You may have transposed the first two digits, as I am not aware of any HJ47s starting with '30'. Given yours is a 1984, it is likely that yours begins '03', rather than '30'. Given that, I'll assume your VIN is HJ47-037712 and answer for that. Yours is a very late build, and was likely produced in late August or September, 1984.

I saw a lot of rusty cars when I was in Denmark: is that what happened to this poor rig? Are you still in DK? Looking forward to seeing photos.

thanks josh for all info
my vin is HJ47-037712 indeed. I wil make all changes to lhd.
I am happy not needing to change the motor mounts, did not know they were the same. my engine is still in, so hard to compare.
The problem is the salt in denmark, wich eats the chassis around the wheel wells, the back of the frame and the inside of the frame rails are heavily delaminated.
The aussie frame is in mint condition. I am trying to get the paperwork in order to swap serial# by toyota, that is why i need the info on the aussie frame.
still in doubt to paint or galvanise the frame, will first shotblast it and see.( any suggestions?)
cab is in perfect shape, only missing the doors.
roof and windowframe are polyester, think will buy the fenders in polyester too ( no more rust& less weight) .
since i am from brussels, belgium rust is a problem here. (Already have a rusted bj75 troopy daily driver)
thinking of a build up thread, but need to get my hands on a camera first.
I am also adapting a 7series bed to fit the 45, and want the sides to open like the back.
still alot of work to do, but very happy with the ih8temud forum for all the info!
thanks for that

If an easy-access bed is what you're after, you ought to see what whitey45 did.

REMOVABLE SIDES!

If you can get it done and afford it - galv the frame. It is very hard to paint 100%. It does mean any alterations you need to do on the frame should be done before it is galvanised. You can still prime and paint it if you don't want to see the bright metal finish.

I think the GRP/Polyester wings are the way to go - some suppliers in France and seem to have the at good prices.

By the way, are you from the UK?

x2 on the galvanising.

If rust is a prob where you are then it is one part of your truck you can sleep easily about.

My old 40 had Gal chassis and saw alot of beach time. The chassis was spotless.
