Dan....this project just keeps getting cooler.....looks like you have a little cleaning to do...

It is actually black paint. I pressure washsed it and all the loose stuff came off.

A good cleaning is in order though.

I already replaced the rear main seal and had the pump rebuilt.

This the 140hp version. :D

I don't want to know what, "beyond anal" could possibly mean for you Kalifornia guys...

I like how you used the kmart blue light special to highlight your work.. ;-)

Oooooh, camp mom chiming in.......

Gotta agree with the ANAL tho.

Nice work George, very very clean.

It should be clean, everything is new.

If you go to the orion thread, you will see that AA discontinued the 4:1HD. They only built 51 one of these total. AA made this decision during the build of this.

OrangeFJ45 (Valley Hybrid) was persistant and steadfast and was able to build # 52.

So on a club run at Calico a few weeks back, I notice a few things that needed attention.

My power steering pump went out and I was strong arming it the entire run. 39.5 with manual steering really sucks. I stayed completely away from the hardcore stuff.

The end result was a really bad rag joint. I saw this while out on the trail and was able to get it back to camp adn on the trailer. I put this in just to steer it around the shop, etc. It was intended for Mock Up only. It was on the list of things to do.

The bottom of the stering tube I guess is suppose to have a bushing in it.

I bought the 4- bolt Pillow Block Bearing but when I got everything apart, I realized that I had the 1" and not the 3/4". :bang:

I installed a new bushing and reassembled the tube.

The finished product.

It is still somewhat collapsible in the splined area nearest the steering box.

It might be overkill but it was 11:00 on a Saturday night and I had to improvise with what I had.

Yes, my steering shaft has bigger Ujoints than my Jeeps Driveshaft.

Dan, what are you doing with the 2F when you swap for the oil burner? Hint hint hint

It will still be burning petro for Cruise Moab but should be running on Diesel for Rubithon.

Great engine! It'll be nice to meet up at rubithon with another smoker

If your tow rig cummins doesn't bother you than I doubt the 4bt will. I really enjoy wheeling my 4bt with it's torque down low and good economy on the trail. If I need more wheel speed I just grab another gear and if I need to crawl I just idle around. I've only used my stupid low once so far. If you decide not to change over by rubithon you're welcome to sit in mine and decide if it's for you or not. A cummins duo (tow rig and trail rig) would be awesome.
