I think your good looking rig has inspired me to paint mine back to the original red, (needs paint anyway) one of the PO's had mine painted to Green which is nice too but the red looks really sharp with the white wheels and bezel. Sweet ride!!!

I might have missed it....

but what did you do to your door jambs? Looks good whatever it is.
Thanks guys! Well, when I took my doors and top off I had a little surface rust along the door jamb and on the top lip. I took a wire wheel to it all, primed and painted it with Rustoleum satin black. Looks a whole lot better than the rust spots!

You know red is probably one of my least favorite Cruiser colors but I love the factory white and red combo. I got a good deal on the rig too so the color was really the least of my worries!

Looks great, I'm glad to see everything worked out.

I may be wrong, but it looks like you may have a little bit of squat in the rear. Mine did when I installed the 4" HFS, and I had to go to about 2.75 over shackles in the rear to level it out. And that was with the hardtop on. YMMV

I'm going to guess, 33X10.5.

yep 33x10.50's and it's sittin pretty level now.

nice rig!!!!

Hey thats a great rig!! I just put the same springs on my 82 Bj 42, except for the bezel and engine its a twin of yours! Same problems too!! I have two pair of 4 degree shims out in the shop waiting to go on. Did you have any problems with the driveshaft length? mine is about 2 inches too short now. Also the emergency brake cable needs to be lengthened too. I like the 33' tires too. Have to get a set of those also What width are they?? I'm not set up for pics but my daughter can take some for me . I'll post some as soon as I get everything together. Tim

Cool Tim! Yeah, I'm pleased with the lift so far. The tires are 10.5 inches wide. I did not have to lengthen my d-shaft. It seems to be fine. Post pics where your done!

I'm DONE !!!{for now}

Well, I finally got around to installing my shims, took about four hours. Then I cleaned everything up [ Big Mistake] and changed my clothes for a test ride. I had stock springs with an add leaf by the PPO and it rode like an oxcart. It had a little buzz at around 55 mph but I didn't care cause I rarely go that fast. After installing the HFS [ Who thought that one up ? ] 4" springs it had a good VIBRRAATTIIOONN from around 40 to 60 and when you turned the steering wheel the front tires woul d say " In a minute" ! Now off we go on the shim install test ride! I'm not even out of my driveway it feels as if I'm riding a chain saw! Out on the road it shakes form 15 to 25, rattles form 25 to 55 and at 60 is smooth as glass! Wait a minute ! This is supposed to better, not worse! Back to the garage,,,, Now what am I gonna do???? Then I remember Alfred saying " Be sure the yokes[ whatever they are] are lined up! So back under and I find the yokey things and sure enough ones is a little off from the other. Now I had never had the drive shaft apart, when I pulled the trans and case I was diligent in keeping the unit whole. So, After a quick shaftectomy I moved the front yoke about three splines over and sure enough, my troubles were over!! She rides smoooooth and the wheels in front do as their told with enthusiasm! It really amazes me that with the old springs and the cockeyed driveshaft alignment it ran fine. It was only after the lift that things went south, and it wasn't the lift but the driveshaft that was the problem all along! Anyway, its been a long journey to enlightenment and I would like to thank everyone on this thread for the help!! TIM

Sounds great Tim!! Yeah, the mud board is the bomb! Post some pics!

Wow, great lookin' rig man!

Nice and clean, it is great to see a non overgrown 40 done right!

Rezarf <><

Nice looking rig, are those stock FJ40 wheels, if so what years where these available and will they work with drums? I have been looking for a set they appear to be the same stock wheels that were on my 85 4runner.

Thanks! They are stock 40 wheels and I'm really unsure about the years they offered them. Maybe 79-84??? I'm not sure if they will work with drums either. lots of people will know here though. Maybe someone will chime in. Good luck!

hfs lift

I realize this is an old post but I came across it researching a small prob with my HFS lift. UPS lost one and I POR'd over the one front spring I have and now CCOT has asked me which side I need--typical:mad:

Anyway nice looking rig and just about what I have in mind for my 71 so it is really nice to see a more finished version of my plan.

I am installing the lift now and I have purchased Fire Red Interlux single stage poly for the paint

I plan on 33 x 10.50s too with stock steelies and a pto winch--but I have a way to go yet

Hope mine turns looking as good!

The cruiser looks GREAT !! Good combo of lift and tires. Wanna trade some of that Georgia sunshine for some rain?
