the valley, yeah that one
I'm pretty close to selling the Tootsie roll:frown:, but I've been battling with finishing off the interior and painting it - a considerable output of cash - or letting it go for a "bargain basement" price.

I'd like to keep this out of chat, so try and keep the "don't sell it" comments to minimum. I've had a wonderful time with it, but driving LaBrea every day is killing the fun. Plus, I can always get another and start from scratch again (that's half the fun for me).

anyways, I've already got bumpers, sliders, tires/lift, tons of interior upgrades (like the Volvo seats :D), a 5.7 Vortec (CA legal to boot), and a ton of other crap going.

I DON'T have a headliner since I caught it on fire, and the clear-coat is way oxidized and there are several dings/dents from the years.

so, that begs the question, sell it in a more "as-is" configuration for around $6,000. or get it shiny and go for +/- $9,000?

Top link is for the ROTW, second is the Vortec build :) Pic below shows with the old bumper (new one is getting painted this weekend)

I vote that you spiff up the beast so that you know another FJ6X is still in good condition for awhile. I always hate leaving jobs "unfinished", and it would be a shame to let it go to some kids who will just torture it. Beint shiny you will fetch a good price (maybe not 9k), but it wont be out for slaughter either.

Let me be the first to say DON'T SELL IT. Buy a Corolla for the commute and keep Tootsie Roll. I know it is a tough deal with a new house and a (kinda)new baby. However, you will regret selling it latter. I know its not what you want to hear, but it would suck to see it go.

Now onto your question. I would do the headliner and a low buck repaint and seek the higher payday (if you really sell it). You have a way cool rig that is worth the payout.

Dynosoar:zilla:

That sounds like an "even money" decision. A good paint job (fix dents and rust) plus a headliner could cost easily the $3K. As is, the rig for $6K appears to be a screaming deal. Sorry to see you having to sell.

If you finish it, do you think you can get 9k out of it in this economy? If you can, finish it, take pictures, and let her go.

If you're committed to selling it, I say sell as is. Or maybe put in the headliner, but forget the paint job. It looks good to me and there's no way you'll get the money back for the spiff up.

It's a tough market right now, so I'll concur w/Gashog: if ya just gotta sell it, do the headliner and pass on the paint.

OK X2 to what Dyno said! You still have more to go on the truck and as is would be better since you won't get what you have in it back.

Yeah, I've been really tortured over the decision. I can't justify two personal vehicles so I'm gonna have to sell it off and get something else until I can afford to have both. I guess I will likely do the headliner and a couple other small things then see what happens...

In any case, I'm not in a huge hurry, so I can afford to "suffer" until it's sold (and obviously do some work on it too) :D

You'll lose money on each "upgrade", not to mention time & work. It'll take a very special buyer to take it without the headliner, though.

Put it on CraigsList as is & work towards the headliner. If the paint job is a sticking point to a qualified buyer, make a deal that allows him/her to get it done. A fresh paint job is always a danger sign to me: can't see what's underneath it. Better IMHO to show it as is.

i have 3.... 84 cruiser, 96 Z28, and a camry... My camry is a 93 with 272,000 miles and runs great. just get ya something super cheap like that with a/c and just drive it and keep the cruiser. I cant really afford all 3 vehicle either so i just rotate which ones i drive depending on how much gas money i have... so usually the camry:doh:.

all of em are paid for so thats really the only way i am able to even think about keeping them all running and doin oil changes, tires, insurance, ect.

soooo....

keep the truck. buy a beater. who cares if its ugly or not.

a picture of each.

I recognize that bumper! :D

How's it treating you?

I'm still gonna sell (I think), but I've been flip-flopping all weekend on how far to take it before I do. at the very least, I'll do the headliner and some other small things... but, I have a problem with spending cash on my vehicles. Last night I was thinking, "well I could paint it, finish the rest of the interior, build another roof-rack, put gears and a locker..." No joke, I really was there. I dunno. This is one hard addiction to kick.

keep it...

yea i had it all straight then i decided to crawl up an embankment and bent the same damn side back in some again (tho not as much) so when im not so lazy ill pull it back out and re-enforce it that way i can really hit something with it.
Im also gonna try and rework the little tabs that run through it so i can fit some shackels through it.

but really its holding up well. it hits a little more often than the stock bumper (couse pretty much anything that could fit a winch would really) and ive had it up and down embankments, mushed a tree with it, ect. it is holdin up pretty well for the abuse it has seen.

Glad to see it's getting used :)

glad to be able to use it.

I'll say it tooo.....Dont sell it...

You will never get the $$ back...but yah knew that....market sucks right now.... I second what others have said...get a small vehicle and keep the LC.

Im driving mine and yeah it sucks paying all that $$ for fuel but..........
Im going to start riding my bike to and from work.. its only 4 miles each way...

Hey when BAJA calls you next time....what yah gonna do then !!

Good luck to yah ....and really hope yah keep it and add to it.....

Frank, when Baja calls my name, I'll just borrow yours :D I've been looking at smaller cars, but I still can't justify having two cars/trucks right now (especially since I just got another project motorcycle). I know that if I get another car, I'll use it to commute, but then the Tootsie Roll will be begging for long trips to go surfing, etc... then I'll spend even more money on gas, etc... If I have one, then I won't have a choice.

I don't know. I still can't get myself to even list the damn thing!

I dont think so buddy !!!!
What about next year surf and turf ?????
Motorcycle??? Dude....you a daddy now !!!
Either way you spend more money... so what gives !!
and you know you want to keep it !!!!
Let the m-cycle go !!!

Is Zero included in the sale ???:flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2:

Frank...quick get him a beer and some sense slapped into him! And by the way you can't load your boards on a Prius and get beach front parking! :D Sorry to say the fuel thing has really gotten out of hand!

haha... the bike was only $300.00 and by the time I finish building it, MAYBE I'll into it for $1200. When I sell it, I can definitely turn a profit. Plus that will only be $80 a month versus over $600 on the tootsie roll... also, if I can get enough on the tootsie roll and maybe get some of my collectors to buy some paintings, then I can get a new Tacoma or maybe (prepare for flamage) an FJ cruiser that gets better MPGs plus still have 4WD (albeit not nearly as good as the 60). I'm also concerned with having anti-lock brakes and airbags for the kidlet when she rides with me.

Still, this is all dependent on me actually deciding to sell and getting a buyer in this market...
