I've been lurking here for a while as my boyfriend (you all know him: amaurer) and I played in his BJ42, but now, FINALLY!, I get my OWN INTRO THREAD!! (Complete with cruiser porn for your viewing pleasure)

Anyway, I'm now the VERY proud owner of a 1985 BJ73 (formerly Ratpuke's). Charla and Drew conspired to convince me that her truck was destroyed by a moose, but then when I opened my christmas presents from Drew I found this picture:

Four days later we were flying to sunny Edmonton to pick up the truck of my dreams and drive it all the way to Chicago. In no time at all, it was mine!!:

A few quick days on the road enjoying the warm Canadian weather.

And in a flash, it was importing time!

Customs was a piece of cake, provided you know your stuff... because they don't. Luckily my trusty Drew was there to remind them of little details like what paperwork we needed, and that we, in fact, DID have to pay duty - they're really not used to this sort of thing!

After that a quick stop in a college town to get trashed on New Years Eve...

And then voila, we're home, and this beautiful BJ73 - 177k km, 3B, PTO winch, PS, AC - is mine, mine mine mine!!!

So I just wanted to say Hi to everyone and introduce "Moose" (formerly "Mr. G"). I'm sure you'll hear more from me when Drew is having one of his "emotional days" and doesn't want to fix my junk for me! Looking forward to my new disease!!

... god, Moose needs a bath...

Nice looking cruiser .Where the heck is the canadian rust???You live in Chicago?? and Drew is in Ca?? A/c and PS ,wow, what luxury. And I bet a 5 speed too - sheesh. A GREAT Christmas present.

Congrats!

It hit a moose? must have been a tiny moose to hit it in the head with the front diff pumpkin.

Congrats!

I would love to own a 70 someday.

I think you just caught Canada on a bad day its usually quite pleasant up here.

Or as they say in Calgary,"If you don't like the weather, just wait 15 minutes", :D

Congrats on the truck!

Welcome Kelly :flipoff2:

But won't this cause problems for your relationship? I mean ...when you go wheeling now ....you'll both want to drive your own separate vehicles.

Not very cosy anymore....:D

:hmm:...I know........Maybe wear headsets for communication (like motorcyclists do).

Very nice...congrats!!!

Hello,

Congratulations on your new truck. Nice!

Regarding the "Moose Conspiracy," either it was a very small one hit with the differential, or the shop did a very good job. Anyway, enjoy it.

For the record, the "Moose Conspiracy" was all BS - we just claimed the truck was totalled to throw Kelly off the scent... Kelly had her eye on this one for a while and I couldn't have her meddling.

And yes, Tom, we're going to have to use headsets, though CBs are more likely. Kelly is very territorial and if it come down to having me in the passenger seat or her dog... well... I'm going to have to drive separately. Ahem.

Its shocking how different this truck drives with a 5-speed and 3.73s compared to my BJ42 with an H41 and 4.11s, it feels so fast! I'm scared to have any fun until I put a pyro on it.

That is AWESOME. What a cool little Christmas story.

Good for you guys! A BJ-73 is at or near the top of my list for trucks I'd love to have. Mid wheel base, removable top, and a 3B/H55f.... Oh so sweet...

Dan

sweet!

Thanks guys!

This truck was well cared for by Charla... you would never know it lived in Canada for so long. It's fantastic! And the truck and I are now California bound... talk about putting miles on a vehicle, sheesh! Canada to Chicago, Chicago to Cali...

Oh really? You take a picture of your thermostat that day it rises to the positive digits and you may succeed in convincing me. Hmm... maybe Canada in the summer?

I think we'll survive... and by that I mean Drew will certainly want to be riding around in my superior vehicle :D On the longer trips we'll probably combine somewhere, but I AM looking forward to a wheeling weekend with both trucks once we get to Cali...

Hope everyone's New Year is off to a good start,
Kelly

Why would you throw a pyro in a BJ73? it has no turbo. Or are you getting at it will be turboed in the future. 4.11s are really nice in a 70. I have never driven in one with the 3.73s though.
Awesome little rig Kelly.

Now my dads just needs to find a new home.

My philosophy is why wouldn't you want a pyro? My BJ42 has no turbo either and you wouldn't believe the temperatures it'll reach - 1400F is easy to reach.

(... and yet somehow all these engines seem to last pretty well even when you don't fuss about EGTs. Whatever, I'm a pussy... :D)

Amen Brotha!
That's why it is so common for 3Bs heads to have cracks between the valve ports.
