Yes, I kept the axle exaclty in th same position in wich it was with previous leaf spring suspension (and of course when it was mount on the HDJ 80 from wich I took the axles.).

the hi pinion setup of this axle helps a lots with the front drive shaft angle ..

Usually you will see control arms under axle housing .. I'm very very interested in know more about your proyect when you finish ir .. and how it gonna be run.

I put the arms above the axle housing simply becouse under that their angle would be too high and the cars wouldn't run well.

I saw that option on a couple of patrol GR with very high suspension; they run good so I tought that at the end shouldn't be a bad idea...

is there a large offroad population over there? Are your friends building trucks too?
I used to live on the island of St maarten in the carribean (2 years) and I was amazed to find a handfull of hardcore french wheelers on the island. the cool thing about the island wheelers was that there were absolutely no rules on the island-you could lift to the sky without mudflaps and nobody cared. As the island has such crappy roads, you couldn't drive faster than 40mph anyway.
Also there were pristine topless beaches to wheel on everywhere. Some beaches were fully nude.
Now immagine if you will.... the idea of wheeling on a totally unregulated tropical beach that is populated with topless women begging for rides....tell me of a place you would rather be.

Now immage that you got married the year before you went to the island.

Dusty your message is not striclty on topic but is very nice!

Unluckly here in Italy is very different from caribbeans...we don't have any beatifull topless chick but, most of all, we have a lot of heavy rules and laws about cars' tuning, and adding to that we have very expansive prices for offroad pieces, items and labour; so most people prefers to ride with stock car, saving a lot of money and not risking expensive sanctions and penalties...

Francesco_from_Italy: I like your approach. The mounting looks good, but you will need to make it stout. So add gussets to the axle mounts. The arms are turned over, which makes good sense for clearance. Looking forward to seeing the spring mounts.

Thanx Ghost!

Wich kind of gussets are you talking about? On the attachment or on the arm?
The attachment is 10 mm iron, it should be strong enough (but I will sold a couple of little triangle to enforce them anyway); the arms are from a LJ (or KZJ) 70, consider that I don't have much power (my stock engine is about 125 hp) I think that they are fine.

Nice work Francesco. I might have missed it but, are those rover arms and 80 axles? Looking forward to seeing the final product!

Thanx Cruscher!

The arms are from a LJ (or KZJ) 70.

Now I'm studying the panhard; by the way, anybody has any suggestion? Attachment points, measurements...?
My idea is to make it run from left (passenger side) to right, parallel to the steering bar; I guess that the longer is the better is and the wider is the flexibility...is that right?

Francesco

Make the PH bar as close to the same length as the Drag link and run from the frame side of the Drag link to the steering knuckle side.

If the steering box is on the DS, then the frame end is on the DS.

And like Everyone else says, make them as close to parallel as you can.

I don't know what the "drag link" is but I undertsood the way i should do the panhard bar!

Yesterday I've got an idea: what if I put, on the raduis bar's attachment on the frame, an uniball instead of the usual piece of rubber (please forgive my very bad english!:whoops: ). This should give to the arms a good flexibility, and plus it would be adjustable.
