Just had a test drive on an 80 this morning. Original post here:

The truck runs good without any noticeable mechanic issues. But the body is not that satisfying. I know it’s Minnesota, you cannot ask too much if you won’t bother to drive a big guy up from the south.

My biggest concern is shown in the pic I uploaded.

1. The rusty hole on the left side is the worst spot, extending to the door panel as you can see. I don’t know this is fixable problem or not. Or say, how expensive is the work? Will that get worse very soon? Btw, I don‘t drive on snow.

2. CEL is on and seller claims it to be an emission issue? I have almost no experience with that kind of problems. Just want to know if it’s true that most FJ80 owners won’t bother to fix that issue because it’s minor?

And if everything else looks good to you guys, how much I offer? Thanks for your attention!

$10k. Lol

but locked axles are worth at least $3.5k in gold now and days. And that’s just the axles.

He has it down to 6K cash from what I read

In my world that rust is a deal killer, but i don't live in rust country. If it didn't have rust then from the little i see its in the ball park on price. On a side note i guess I need to get busy with the part out rigs I have because according to this thread I have 7k in axles sitting in my barn

Way too much rust for me on a vehicle that with patience and a bit more money I can find much better examples. That entire rocker needs replacing and unless you can do it yourself I would think it would be quite expensive.

Rust frees live in southern states. I can’t go there very easily. 😂😂

You can fly south a lot cheaper than you can replace that rocker. :p

Here are a few other 80 options in the Minneapolis area you could look at as well - to compare to mine:

stay the **** away. Have you ever had a rusty car?

Keep your eyes open. I bought one and had it shipped about 50 miles for $2200. Now the tranny was trashed and ran like s*** but one spec of body rust, lockers, etc.

I bought one years ago with the rust on the underside. Made it a bitch to work on. And it was not super bad.

Good luck finding the truck of your dreams, but I encourage you to do more research on 80 ownership and lower your expectations for the $$$ you are looking to spend.

Again, rust free trucks are much more expensive ($10K+++), and rarely found in the upper mid-west. You will need to spend much more $$$ and travel south to find the truck you are looking for (or have it shipped). Then you can start the mechanical base-lining process, good luck!

life's too short to start with a rusty cruiser when a flight to TX, AZ or another southern state can get you a clean rig.....

If you just want to wheel it and run around in it, fix what breaks and run until it’s dead, this fits the bill. If you have always wanted a land cruiser and plan to buy one with the intent to wheel it and work on it as a hobby and fix it up and expect to keep it until you die, then this is not the one to start with.

Made a slight correction.....
