Hey all

Having a bit of a weird issue where my factory navigation and backup camera have both stopped working at the same time. I don't get the 'Terms and Conditions' screen for the navigation, nor do I get the 'Check Surroundings for Safety' (or whatever the disclaimer is for the camera). The screen is just blank. I don't use the navigation for turn-by-turn directions, but it's nice to have the map on sometimes so I'd like it to work if I can have it.

I can access the climate controls and everything else except those two things. Additionally, when I have the climate controls on the screen and then shift into reverse, nothing happens ie. the screen doesn't go blank as it just stays on the climate control settings. I'm thinking it's something to do with the backup camera not getting a signal from the car that the car is in reverse. But then that doesn't necessarily explain the navigation not coming up. I also disconnected the battery and re-connecting it to no avail.

Has anyone else experienced this before? Any tips on what to look for? I searched a few threads but this particular issue hasn't yet appeared.

Thanks

Per the wiring diagram, the signals for the camera and navigation both pass through the television ECU before they get to the multi-display. I would start by checking that module. It is located under the passenger seat, along with the navigation ECU. It could be as simple as a loose or corroded connector.

This is an odd coincidence, but I have an '04 as well and I have done a nav delete. So I have all of those modules for sale if you figure out one is bad.

I'm hoping it's something as simple as that.

I'm also having an issue with my gauge cluster where the oil pressure gauge has stopped working and the other gauges take about 5-10 seconds to start working after a startup. The running theory there is there is water intrusion because of a leaking sunroof. Maybe these issues are connected?

I'll be cleaning out the sunroof drains and opening the driver side kick panel to see if there is water intrusion.

Will definitely let you know if I need one of those modules.

Thanks!

This won't be super helpful to hear, but you should be aware that the stepper motors behind the cluster gauges have been known to just go out. I had 2-3 intermittent failures and one almost always failed (speedo). I had Tanin Auto rebuild my whole cluster last Summer and it's been perfect since.

Thanks. If this ends up being what's wrong I'll be giving them a call.

What was their turnaround?

My auxiliary gauges have been intermittently failing for the last year or two, will have to do some research to see if it’s worth sending out the cluster for a full reman or if I can do any of the replacements myself.

IIRC, they were a few weeks, but that did include me having to send it back to correct an error on their part. I was fortunate to have been given a spare (also bad) cluster to send in, so I had no real down time. The error on their part was that they were going to hold the rebuilt cluster until after I returned home from a long road trip to get the mileage accurate. Admittedly it was probably not a common ask, but I would use them ask.

Updating to say the problem is now intermittent. I believe it's water related, but not sure if water is somehow getting under the passenger seat or somewhere else the wiring goes. I know the front sunroof drains aren't clogged so might have to look at the rear ones.

I'll also be looking into the possibility of a PIN 60 problem. Some of the failures I've seen here are a little different in that there is an error on their screens saying "check the connection of the air conditioner" or "audio off". I don't have those errors yet and my climate control works.
Apparently one of the guys that used to fix them, Mr. Whizard, isn't doing the mail-in repairs anymore but I'll be giving him a call to see if he has any advice. If he doesn't think it's the PIN 60 problem I'll start looking into replacement ECUs or modules from ebay. Looks like the nav module under the passenger seat can go out, and at around $150 on ebay, it's not too bad of an expense.

Updating this post with a little more info.

On top of the intermittent nav and backup camera problems, the cruise control gave out on me this weekend. It threw a CEL and VSC TRAC / VSC OFF lights with P0500 being the code for a speed sensor. Cleared the code with my scan gauge but it immediately came back so I knew it would be persistent. It was raining when the CEL came on, so I couldn't shake the idea of water intrusion. Toyed with the idea of buying a replacement speed sensor (part number 83181-12020) and speed sensor sub assembly (part number 33403-19595) but I didn't think the sensor was bad only because of my previous 'luck' with intermittent electrical problems. I figured they all had to be connected.

Lo and behold, this morning when I come out to the car I noticed some water streaks on the inside of the windshield on the passenger side. Traced it to an inner windshield seal. I may have found my smoking gun.

My apartment has a garage so I don't park outside, which is probably why it took so long for this to come to light. I have an appointment with a local windshield shop to take a look and see what the best course of action is. There is a worry of rust, but if it was localized to the top of the windshield then I'm hoping for the best.

I just went down the new windshield road. The “Achilles heel “ of this job are the 2 trim pieces that are riveted to the body. There are many threads on it. The trim pieces are over $100 each. If they are not damaged they can be reused if removed properly (FSM). I did all the rust removal/repair myself and removed and installed the trim pieces myself with rivets. I hope the glass person you get is competent. The Safelite guy that showed up to do mine jokingly stated they drew straws to come do my windshield. I had all the critical work done. He was very happy. I was happy he didn’t get to ruin my trim pieces and put her metal screws in my cruiser. Good luck with your windshield replacement. Be militant about them fixing it correctly. I had the FSM out for the guy.

I appreciate the advice. Been doing some research on the windshield install, and if I have to go that route I'll be asking a lot of questions. I'm hoping a windshield re-seal or replacement isn't necessary but I am very confident in the place I'll be going to. I spoke with him today and he seemed to know about potential issues the 100 has with the glass and getting that fitment right. I'll be sure to look more into the rivets and ask questions once I get to the appointment.

Did you go for OEM glass replacement? If you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost?

I tried to do the OEM glass through safelite and they had to refund my money because they said they couldn't get it. So I went with the non OEM. I ordered all the appropriate stuff from Partsouq (Dams, spacers, small molding pieces, mirror mount) just so when the installer arrived and I plopped the FSM in front of him he had everything to do his portion correct. The parts I mentioned are very inexpensive and gave me good piece of mind. I watched him from inside the house. He was reading and measuring to make sure he installed the dams and spacers correctly. I am pleased with my install. $300 I believe.

New windshield installed and sealed. The old seals were letting in water in the A pillar and behind the dash. Going to be taking it into a shop next week to get a feel for the damage the water caused.

Will update once I take it in.

Suuuper long video, but he's got tons of tips in there for mitigating moisture damage.

I love LSC!

Haven't watched this one yet but I'll be checking it out tonight.

Slight update.

Took the truck into the shop to inspect for any water intrusion/damage behind the dash and they found nothing, which I suppose is good news if I wasn't looking for my 'smoking gun' of electrical problems. I talked to the guy working on it and he was extremely helpful in trying to diagnose what my problems could be.

I had them swap out my navigation module (part number 86841-50090) then as well to no avail. But I did also come across a problem I didn't know I was having. It turns out there are a lot of menus in the whole nav/screen system that aren't working either. The maintenance calendar, the screen settings, DVD player functionality, as well as a few other menus do not work as the screen goes blank when I try to get into them. It's looking like there is some ECU or component somewhere that is either not working or not talking to the screen anymore (or both). My last hope before I spend a lot of time digging into this is to swap out the parking assist computer, which I've also seen referred to as the TV module (part number 516110-10760 but also part number 86792-60050 (?)).

I got one off ebay with the 10760 part number but it has a different mounting bracket. I'm hoping I'll be able to swap the brackets out if this one works.

I've seen wiring diagrams that show the backup camera going through the parking assist/TV module, but does anyone know if that module processes any other data? If it stores/processes more than just a backup camera feed then it could be where my problem lies, which is why I got a replacement.

Swapped out TV modules and no dice. Going to need to start testing wires.

Giving the PIN 60 repair a shot this weekend. If that doesn't end up working I'll try a new(?) board from aliexpress.

Not to sound too basic but did you check the fuses under the passenger side kick panel. I had the same issue with Navigation and the backup camera and it was just a blown fuse.
