I need to replace the harness that goes from the firewall to the rear of my truck. It powers all the lights. I was thinking of doing it myself as it is only six wires, and I would reuse the existing connectors.

I found this site that sells the right colours with the right stripes.

Striped Tracer Wire, Tinned Copper USA Made

Anyone know of any other places to get it? Maybe one that rolls of 25'.

I thought about Coolerman, but he is tied up for the next several months.

Coolerman just last week filled an order for me very quickly. He's tied up for building harnesses, but not wire and connectors. Good stuff!

E-mail him an order, you'll get delivery before you find a good crimper!

I am happy to supply the wire and terminals for the connectors. Just let me know how many feet of each color you need and how many terminals and what sex they are.

That's great.
I'll snap some pics and do some measuring tonight.

Another option, I like factory wires, some, like most light colors are the same across models. We harvest harness on our pick & pulls runs and take them apart for spare wire. Van rear harness net lots of light wire.

I went to 'harvest' the wires on my 44 year old FJ40, and it would have been like 'harvesting' blood vessels from cadavers at a golden ager home.

Additionally, the OEM wires are 18 gauge, and coolerman is strongly (and rightfully) recommending 16 gauge for rebuilds.

New wires from coolerman are GXL insulation, far superior to the old OEM stuff. When I strip back my original wire, the strands are black with copper oxide, suggesting to me that the older insulation is somewhat porous.

In any event, new wire after 44 years will last a lot longer than I will!

I wasn't proposing destruction of FJ40 harness. We harvest from later model Toyota's and take them apart for spare wire. Some models, like vans, have a long harness, in our experience the protected wire is like new, nets lots of nice, factory wire. We also have a good relationship with the local dealer, they allow us to raid their warranty replaced harness bin, same deal, when taken apart, nets nice wire.

Most later model cars now use GXL, TXL or SXL wires. This is simply a cross linked polyethylene type of insulation. Very resistant to gas, oil and heat.
Insulation thickness is the difference between those three. TXL is thin, GXL is medium and SXL is thick. I use GXL for everything except the power circuit. There I use SXL for the added protection.
