That was the basis for my pondering the Suburban tanks as they at least have the fill bung in something close to the right location.
I've found that Rock auto will sometimes list the dims of fuel tanks either in the listing or in the page that the "Info" button opens. Might make sifting out a viable tank easier.

Clearly that doesn’t work, so spend 150 with a shop. I’m pointing out the solution on a thread that left viewers disappointed. …. Like, it’s the thread equivalent of seeing gwyneth paltrow naked. … I’m bolting on some tits.

Well, I saw the install. I’m going to copy it. If you want 2x range, and you want it to fit… and you don’t want to spend 2000 on something just to replace a couple Jerry cans, well, there you have it. Right there is a formula that works.
22 gal tank @ $6/gal x2 = $264 fill up.
If I piss in a gatoraid bottle I can make Phili 15 min quicker with the 44 gallon tank.
Take some pictures of this guy's install, or yours, if you do it please @zipper . I've been researching options for a few months, have read this thread and the accompanying ones a few times, but haven't found anything I like very much.

@zipper if you manage to make it work, I say give 'er a go. At worst you'd be able to verify that no, it DOES NOT work; and at best you would have it worked out well enough for the rest of us to do the same with our rigs, PLUS an affordable alternative to the ever-more-difficult fuel tank recall for those who never got it done.

You're right, using a menu to select "1989 chevy suburban" is hard!
This is just an example, and clearly they're out of the gas version. You can find an '89 burb tank anywhere on the internet.
Ah, found it. In one of the other threads searching for a tank to put in, and a guy @tputterman put a spectra premium gm14b tank in his 60. From googling around, this appears to be the late 80s suburban 31gal tank. The late 80s subs came with either 31gal or 40gal apparently. I thought it hung down kinda low, but that might just be the way the guy hung it.

That looks like it hangs about the same as the MAF 38 gal tank I have.
I got ahold of him, and took some pics... the install was a bit redneck if you ask me. it does work so i will give him his due, he did it, but drilling holes in the floor for backer plates isn't my speed. I'll post pics when i'm not 1/2 a bottle into some laphroig. .. in exchang for some partts hes gonna give me a tank for my next build. I'll make some more copacetic straps from some toyota pieces/parts and while no more effective, less hokey. .. i mean hes feeding a 383 with a double pumper from a 42 g tank sucking it dry, and had an accurate fuel gage, and its solid, but just not my speed, for appearance.
How low did it hang compared to a stock 22gal tank?
I'd say level with the frame or close to it. If youre a 2" body lift kinda guy for 35's like me, I'm guessing you could use a flat piece of sheet as a skid plate and have some room for distortion from impacts. I'd rather have jerry cans than low hanging un protected fuel tanks. I've never seen anyone destroy a tank, but the ones on my Gwagon and Trooper always seemed kinda low, like "oops we forgot we needed a tank for this design, so let just stick it right here". not a fan.
