The PO of my wife’s new-to-us 2022 GX460 evidently went to war with the oil filter housing/assembly.

I can’t believe that it was sealing. Has anyone replaced this engine side oil filter adapter/housing?

I believe it is the following part number:
1560938030

Two o-rings, two bolts, and two nuts on studs.

If you want to check to see if you have the correct part number and any associated parts, here's the FSM: GX 460 Manuals
The link is also on the forums front page.
Also, if you're going to replace it a good place to order from is Bell Lexus in Arizona. Many folks on this forum use Bell, as they usually always have the best prices and are a legit Lexus dealer.

Thanks @r2m - I did talk to Bell Lexus, but the total shipping time to me was ~4 days. They suggested Sewell Lexus in Dallas as a quicker ship option based on my location. I went that route and sacrificed $$ in exchange for time. Still waiting for confirmation that they got the part in hand and are shipping it out to me today.

Thanks for the manual link too. I downloaded that and it has been a nice reference.

Glad to help!

I don't even understand how that's possible. The cap is plastic and would have likely exploded before they did anything to the housing.
Isn't there a metal "upgrade" cap from a different Toyota model that fits? I wonder if the PO had that installed and went ham fisted on it.... Or maybe he tried to install a metal cap that wasn't correct fitment. As you say, I don't see how the plastic one could damage anything without first breaking apart.

I have the metal cap. There's no way it can do that by itself. That looks like someone took a screwdriver or a chisel to it. Maybe they were trying to break the plastic cap out because it was broken and stuck in there. Or they had the metal cap on it and it was cross threaded. But holy hell, that is a hell of thing to damage.

Yeah - my guess is that the OEM plastic cap was damaged due to being previously over torqued and/or a low quality removal tool. Once damaged someone definitely lost their zen and got way too aggressive removing the broken cap.

Sewell Lexus of Dallas came through and this arrived today:

My first “hmmmmmm” moment was when I noticed an aftermarket Dorman metal cap. Upon removing the cap I beheld the carnage. I also ordered a new OEM plastic cap. (And the two o-rings that go between the new adapter and the engine front timing chain cover.)

To get to the adapter fasteners I had to remove the fan (4 12mm nuts) and fan shroud (5 10mm screws). The coolant reservoir is attached to the shroud and shares some of those fasteners. I just set the reservoir out of the way on the engine.

The adapter is held on the timing cover by two bolts and two nuts on studs. I did disconnect and remove the oil pressure sensor (24mm) before removing the fasteners.

There is also a small bracket attached to the adapter that holds the wire to the oil pressure sensor. This bracket must be removed (1 10mm screw).

Once all of that is out of the way the adapter can be removed from above or below. The A/C refrigerant lines are close by, but just enough room for access either way.

Here is that abused adapter…

Here is a view from below of the two studs, two bolt holes and the two oring glands:

Here is a view of the connection area from the top (going to add some pics and notes that may be helpful to someone later.)

I cleaned up the connection area to prepare for installing the new adapter. The two orings fit into glands in the engine timing cover. The mating surfaces on the adapter are flat. As the FSM states, I lightly coated the new orings in oil and installed them in the glands - they stayed in place well enough for the next steps.

I went ahead and installed the oil pressure sensor in the new adapter (with a dab of loktite 242). The sensor fits into glands fine from above or below with the sensor in place.

Adapter in place and bolts/nuts snugged up by hand:

Fasteners torqued to 26 ft-lb. And new OEM cap assembly installed:

Re installed fan/shroud and coolant reservoir. Refilled oil and started to check for leaks.

All good, so skids / engine covers back on and as good as new. I still can’t imagine how this happened. Was it the PO? Was it the dealer who took it as a trade? The dealer did show an oil change on the carfax and apply a mileage reminder sticker. Can’t believe they would sell a vehicle with knowledge of an issue like this.

Either way - all good now.
