Inspired by a cpl of you here. @tmxmotorsports @NeverGiveUpYota i went and got me a beater 22re pickup. It’s my new favorite play thing.

It needs a little mechanical work and plenty of cosmetic work (that I have no intention on doing) but it’s a pretty solid runner. Most important for me is the roof rack.

Since I won’t be going to work for at least 6 more months (I work in Live events) I bought this to build a lil house in my backyard. I keep telling my wife I’ll sell it right when I finish the project but man this lil thing is already growing on me.

My 6 year old daughter and I have agreed on the name Ruby... Ruby the red truck. Ok ok it’s more burgundy but oh well....

I love # nachotaco its bsck goinh now had to replace the entire fuel pump module some how the conectorin in the tank melted and the fuel pump stopped working all good now and i replaced the condenser coil and charged the ac working for now but did notice the compressor has a leak (insert cuss wprd of your choice here)

Nice Joe! What year is it? I LOVE my little green Kermit the Frog truck. I’m in the process of making a very cheap ladder rack for her thanks to a few who gave me the tip on mattress frames. Right now tho I’m back at the 60, hard and heavy w/ a time crunch.

Love the Bee sticker Fel!

Mine is a 95 with 233k on the ticker. I paid $2400 hundred for it which seams a bit hi for this beater but the demand for these in California is through the roof. I could probably sell the ladder rack for $400 and still get $2500 for the truck here when I'm done with it.

I put some cheapo Autozone shocks on it on the first day cause it was a sloppy mess. It's got an idle issue that I'm trying to figure out. When it's warm and you push the brake the idle drops way low.... I'm guessing that it's one of 3 things. Vacuum leak from the booster, Air Idle Control Valve is bad or bad ground somewhere.

Ordered a bunch of tune up parts from Toyota Parts deal so I'll jump into this week when they arrive.

Hhaha you jumped on the 22RE bandwagon. Well, unfortunately I sold mine back in January with 202k on it, a 1991 pickup. Things are a beast. 2WD all day with awesome MPG.

Yeah I had to have the bee, puts a nice touch to the rear window. Awesome trucks. Lucky you got a ladder rack but yeah wow, $$$. My bets are on the booster but hey, just a bet. :)

WARNING: Breaking all forum ettiqute to talk about my not a Land Cruiser for a sec. Gotta follow up with @NeverGiveUpYota and @tmxmotorsports on the bad idle on the 22RE...

:flipoff2:

It was the Air Idle Control Valve and the two associated hoses that come out of it... The two ports and the hoses had "poo brown" logs clogging them up all the way through them. As I understand it... this causes the idle to dip as the coolant flow is being starved thru the AICV which forces the brake booster valve to suck air. So new hoses and a new Napa brand A.I.C.V. solved the problem. Also flushed the coolant system twice with distilled and plan to do that one more time now that I've ran it 100 miles. It looks liked the coolant hadn't been changed in a very long time although it does appear to have had head work done. The brown tells me it was Toyota Red Coolant which over years turns that gross brown.

I did in fact buy some ebay knock off cosmetic parts to clean up the front end a bit. All in all it only cost me about 200 bucks to make it presentable in the front of my house. The new front bumper/valance/grill/side lights make it look a lot less beaterish.

Nice! I did some cooling work when I first got mine when I noticed the coolant was an ugly brown. I replaced the tstat and flushed the coolant but maybe that’s something I’ll need to check too.
Knock off grill is the fake chrome? Mine is all green which is a bummer.

Damn you. I want that silver grill. I now see it on eBay. Like I need to spend more $$. Ugh. I have some of the TOYOTA emblems from a front grill I wanted to work into and over the oval one which I don’t dig. And all the lettering on my truck was either removed or it didn’t come w/ it. I see those avail on eBay too. Darn you.

Lol... remember.. it’s just a beater. Invest your time and money into the 60.

Finally got a 5 speed!

Went and saw Georg last week at Valley Hybrids. We did the 5 Speed swap with a used H55 that he got a hold of. He married the H55 up to a freshly rebuilt TCase as well. I got to hang out and help his lead tech with the job. Got my first taste of working on a car on a lift... I never want to go back.

The H55 has an unknown amount of high miles so there is a bit of a whine that comes from it. I'm not complaining cause Georg really worked with me with my budget. Just something I noticed. All in all I'm really happy to have it. Really made the drivability of the cruiser much better and more practical. 1st and second are lower (I'm told 3rd and 4th are the same) and 5th is a game changer. Able to go 70 at about 2100 RPMS. Still not getting anywhere fast but not racing the motor on the hwy either. I strongly recommend doing this mod if you enjoy speeds over 55 MPH.

Also did... Rear Main Seal, Clutch, Flywheel, Master & Slave. Fluid change on both diffs as well as a rear diff seal cause it was leaking and a full grease up on the driveshaft.

I finally feel like everything on this truck is pretty complete. I'd drive it 1000 miles from home now. I mean I would have before but I'd feel better now with out the transfer case leaking as bad as it did.

First time I've ever got to use a lift...

Can you pull 5th on anything but flat ground? Glad for you on the fiver. Digging that first gen 4 runner. That would be my weapon if I didn’t already have a LC.

They’re never that slow unless they’re very out of tune.

NO! Lol. 5th is not dragging you up Donner Pass

You must live where it’s flat. Haha

I do, but I’ve spend weeks in the mountains, and it never disappointed that badly.

I have a fresh well tuned motor and not a lot of added weight running 4:10 gears and with the 4 speed it cruises along pretty well. I am just looking for a little longer gear for cruising long distances. The problem I have , is the cost just to lower the RPM by 500-600 in top gear. Have you noticed any gain in performance off road with the lower 1st and 2nd?

I've only had it 2 or so weeks and have yet to run it up a trail. I'm thinking this particular gear box is going to be replaced once I get my money right. Driving home in some traffic the other day I noticed it jumping out of first gear while it was stop & go. My first thought was... this would really suck if I was on a trail and it did this. But to answer your question... I would say that it would also be glorious on the trail as 1st and 2nd are lower in range. I still live with 3:73's on 33's which seams pretty perfect. Not sure how diff 4:10's would feel. You're on 35's?

I m running 33s. With the 4:10 gears it is really close to stock ratios. It works well off road and not bad on road , just higher rpm at 65 then I would like. With that being said, it will run at 2700 to 2900 rpm all day without a problem. It’s just a little noisier then I like. I imagine a lower 1st and 2nd would be awesome off road. You can never have low enough gears for crawling😉. Keep us posted on how you do or don’t like the ratios, thanks.

Me neither quite frankly. Luckily for me, 99% of the time I'm in the 60 I'm in no hurry. I have other cars for that...

Sup with a coffee cup? Can a brotha get put on?
